LIBRARY NEWS

This Week in the Library

It’s hard to believe that it’s the end of Term 2 and that we’re halfway through the year already! This week in library lessons we’re busy finishing off tasks from earlier in the term and focusing on ‘good fit’ books to borrow for the holidays. I’ve been discussing with our students what ‘reading for pleasure’ means and what it looks like when we find a story that we just want to read for ‘fun’. So often students are set books to read that are difficult for them to enjoy so being able to choose something they’re excited about, is really important to instil a love of reading. My favourite part of being a librarian is connecting a child with a book they love. This week, Josie in Stage 3 renewed a book she had borrowed previously as she just “loved it”. She told me that she kept trying to find times during the day to keep reading and her face lit up telling me all about it. My heart sang! Long may it last…

Holiday Reading

Apart from the books that students are borrowing this week during lessons, there are many ways that families can still use the library while on holidays. Families can access these services by visiting the HTS library website or following the links below.

  1. SORA - the digital library (children can read ebooks or listen to audiobooks). You can access this through the SORA app or the following website . Students will need to use their school email address and password to log in (please contact your child’s teacher for this information if you are unsure).

  2. Story Box Library - a website where quality Australian stories are read aloud.

Quick Bits

  • More Premier’s Reading Challenge participants have completed their challenge and returned their reading log for validation. What reading superstars!
  • If you have any overdue books at home, could you please assist your child in having a look for them over the holidays and returning them to school. Thank you!
  • A big thank you to the Wilmans and Bourke families who kindly donated books to the library this week. James very generously gave us a new copy of a ‘Storey Treehouse’ book by Andy Griffiths & Terry Denton and Sienna was excited to share a book written by a family friend called ‘Rona Stole My Fun’ by Chandra Clements. The illustrations were even done by her four-year-old daughter! Thank you to both families!

To finish off the term I thought I would share some photos of new books ready for holiday borrowing, especially the non-fiction titles as so many students love information books. There’s some great new secondary fiction books and the latest editions of Wheels, Frankie & Outback magazines are ready to go too. I’ve also included some photos of Toby & Riley, first borrowers of the Hunger Games prequel book and Mollie with the newest ‘Wings of Fire’ story.

I hope you all have a safe and relaxing break, happy reading!
