Fun Fridays

Each Friday, the Secondary students take part in a house based activity.  Last Friday, it was a mini-olympics styled event that took each house against another.

The weather was spectacularly accommodating of the oval being used for land based canoe races, the limbo, table-tennis ball tossing challenge and a tug-of-war.

We love Fridays!

Year 6 Camp

One of the highlights on the College Calendar is the Year 6 Camp.  It's an opportunity for the oldest students in the Primary School to get together and deepen friendships and develop leadership.  The above images demonstrate that they also have a whole lot of fun!

Thanks to Mr Bernabe and Mrs Ackerman for overseeing the week.

'On Tuesday, the 12th of August, Mrs. A. & Mr. B’s  Year 6 class arrived at school all ready to leave for camp. Jumping onto the bus was wild, it seemed that everybody wanted to be at the back of the bus, instead of sitting at the front and getting that early lead of seeing the campsite first. The campsite that we went to was called Dare Adventures Survival Camp in Dwellingup. The school had never been there before, so everybody was wondering if camp would live up to its expectations.

Late in the morning, we finally got to the campsite where we quickly unpacked our bags and sat down in the dining hall. Then, the head camp instructor, Clayton, came in and gave us the camp brief. Afterwards we threw our bags into the dorms and got stuck into the activities. In the first activity, the Commando Course, we didn’t have to be in tribes, so we could climb over 12 feet walls and leopard-crawl through the mud pit with our friends. It was extreme fun! Soon after, we ate the first of many delicious dinners prepared for us by the wonderful camp chef. It was fun sleeping in the dorms with our friends because we got to chat about the day that we all had.

We got to do all sorts of amazing activities in our tribes throughout the week including Archery Tag, Raft Building, Crate Climbing, Orienteering and even a night march! Camp wasn’t just great because of the food, the games, or even how great the instructors were (AMAZING x1000), the best part about camp was that we got to learn about God. In the mornings and the evenings, we would all head into the dining hall to learn about God with Pastor Simon from the Busselton  Baptist Church. Pastor Simon really made this camp awesome, along with some other people. The instructors, Mr Bernabe but most of all, Mrs. A. Without Mrs. A. persevering to keep our Year 6 camp going, we would have never gone!

Cadets

Mrs Wright has been busy within our Cadets program, and shares these images with us.

'Firstly, we have our Year 7 Cadets. We are learning to complete drills and compete against each squad. The sponge activity in some of the photos is where students are learning to show initiative by thinking of creative ways they can pass a wet sponge along a line. The tricky part is we can only use certain body parts.

Other images show the Year 7s having some fun and games with the Year 12 students who are leading our Cadet camp.'

There's also a few photos which show Mrs Wright's senior cadets crew who are working through testing a variety of recipes for cadet camps. They are responsible for ordering the food and ensuring each squad has the correct quantities for each meal whilst on camp.

Cadets is a hugely popular program in the Secondary School - and develops leadership and teamwork in so many ways. It's a program that the students in the Primary years anticipate a great deal.

Community Garden

Last week, the Year 5 class in Busselton spent a day at the Busselton Community Gardens.

The students rotated around 4 activities: composting, the worm farm, planting and weeding. They worked hard, listened well and were very respectful to Jill and Adrian our hosts. It was an absolute pleasure being able to practically learn more about sustainability and to bless our wider community.

It was great to have several parents pop in to visit and grab a coffee. A big thanks for Sascha and Sharee for driving and helping out today and the kids appeared to enjoy our outdoor classroom!

Cross Country - Cornerstone Style!

One of the things that stands out at Cornerstone is the Secondary Cross Country event.  We like making things interesting and engaging - and the water crossings, horse jumps and agility additions make it memorable.

Last Friday was the day - and with parents and former graduates joining in with staff to oversee the day, it was as fun as always.  The Busselton Horse and Pony Club grounds became the stage, and the students from across the Secondary school the main players.

Congratulations to Queen and King of the day, Savannah Blake and Caydhen Black for being the first to cross the line.  Well done, to every student who took part with such enthusiasm.

Special thanks to Mr Arthur for his leadership in delivering yet another successful event.

Impromptu Play in Year 1

If you had been in the vacinity of Year 1 last Friday, you would have been forgiven for thinking you had stepped inside a production of Little Red Riding Hood.

Given the chance to play with dressups, the students organised themselves to take parts in a performance of the classic children's story.

A delightful opportunity for unstructured play to lead to creativity!
