Around the College

Dunsborough Open Morning

If you have friends or family who have been considering enrolling at Cornerstone Dunsborough, then Mr Maynard will be taking prospective parents on an informal walk-around this Friday.

It's occurring after the campus playgroup on Friday morning, and all are welcome to join in.

Drop into the administration in Dunsborough at 11:00 am and you will be redirected to the playgroup classroom.  For further information, please email enrol@cornerstone.education.

Primary Book Fair

The Book Fair is on!  During Week 8 (8th - 11th September), the Book Fair will be unfolding. The process for purchases will change this year, with students taking their wishlist home, and purchases to be made online by parents.  Students will then deliver their paid order information back to school and collect their books.

We will give clear instructions closer to the time, but for now, start thinking about Book Character Parade ideas to help us make the 2020 parade the best one yet!

Dunsborough's Book Character Parade is scheduled for Thursday the 10th of September, and Busselton Book Character Parade is on the 11th of September. Secondary students will also be participating in the Busselton parade.

Entertainment Book

The sun is shining and that's a good reason to get out and about. If you have ever considered an Entertainment Book, the fundraising benefits to the school have been doubled in the coming few weeks, and showcase so many local businesses and attractions.

You save, and we earn rewards!

Communication Reminder

We appreciate that so many families have come on board in ensuring that our administration is aware of arrangements for students during school hours. Whether it is an early departure, a late arrival, an illness or absence, the Administration team is to be the first port of call for such information.

Student safety is of paramount importance and our Administration needs to be aware of arrangements for students. This ensures that all staff are aware of any changes, as this information is then relayed through to teachers as appropriate.

If you have information that the College should be aware of, please notify us via email to attendance@cornerstone.education or admin@cornerstone.education or admin.dunsborough@cornerstone.education.  Alteneratively you can advise us by phone (9754 1144 for Busselton and 9742 1133 for Dunsborough).

Thanks for your continued help!

Uniform Reflections from Mr Meyer

What do students say about school uniforms?

“Uniforms show that you are part of our College. Wearing it says we’re all in this together,”

“If you wear your uniform with pride, it means you are halfway there to being respectful, buying into what the school is all about.’’

“Uniforms give me a sense of belonging to Cornerstone and create an identity for the school in our community.”

What do teachers say?

"A school uniform teaches students to dress smartly and take pride in their appearance."

"A school uniform can improve learning by reducing distraction, sharpening focus on schoolwork, allowing students to perform better academically."

"A uniform means a student doesn’t have to worry about peer pressure when it comes to their clothes. When everyone is dressed the same, worrying about what you look like isn’t so important. There is no competition about being dressed in the latest trend, which would put a great deal of financial pressure on students and parents."

Please wear the correct uniform on the right day.  Wear the correct shoes. No skate shoes or slip-ons or ”Wollies”.

Dress so that people will know how much respect and dignity you have.

Support our College's culture of excellence in character.

You are seen in the way you present yourself.

Do it well.

College Photographs

Our Campus Photo days are scheduled for later this Term.

Please note the following dates:

Busselton Campus - Tuesday, 15 September 2020.

Dunsborough Campus - Wednesday, 16 September 2020.

Please be mindful of these dates when booking specialist appointments,

as student late arrivals and early departures may impact class photos. The photo envelopes for online ordering will be sent out to families approximately a week before the event.

A reminder that correct winter uniform is required for all students on that day.

Please contact the front office if you have any questions regarding this event.

Leave of Absence Approval Forms

Many families are unsure as to the Leave of Absence (LOA) Form process and whether it is a formal requirement of the College. To help clear up any confusion we've provided answers to some common queries surrounding this.

Why do you need to put in an LOA?

As part of the College's ability to fulfill regulatory requirements by the Federal Government, the College is required to carefully monitor and record student absences. A LOA form provides information to the College to help in this important requirement. It also helps teachers support students in their learning by knowing ahead of time when the students will be absent from school.

When do I need to put a form in?

If you are aware in advance that your child/children will require time away (at least one full day) from school during the term for any reason e.g. specialist or medical appointments, holidays and travel, participation in community events or State, National or International sporting events, you need to submit an application at least three working days

ahead of the proposed absence.

How do I access or submit a LOA Form?

Forms are available on the College website, by clicking on the Parents Tab and scrolling down to the Absence page. Hard copies are also available on request at the College Administration. Once completed, forms may be submitted to Administration or emailed directly to attendance@cornerstone.education

How will I know if my Leave of Absence has been approved?

Provided that the application has been submitted early, your application will be forwarded to the College Principal for consideration. The Attendance Officer will then contact parents to advise them of the outcome. Successful applications will then be recorded as 'Approved Student Absence'.

For Primary students the form will be passed along to the Head of Primary then their class teacher. For Secondary students, the form will be passed along to their Head of House so appropriate subject teachers can be informed. This assists teachers in their planning and to identify any learning or grading gaps.

As always if you have any queries surrounding this, please contact our friendly Administration team with your questions.

Notice of Student Departure

We recognise that for a variety of reasons, some students may not be returning to us in 2021.  Whether you anticipate a possible relocation, your child is hoping to secure an apprenticeship, or any other reason, we ask that you keep us up-to-date with your plans.  It is a requirement for anyone leaving the College to provide a Term's notice - this helps us in our planning, and less than a term's notice does incur a financial penalty equivalent to a term's fees.   So early notification is best for everyone!

With so many families keen to secure a place at Cornerstone next year, and waiting lists existing in many cases, your forewarning also allows us to help others with their planning as well.

If you require a Notification of Departure Form, please contact our Administration team and they will ensure you have the correct documents provided.
