Kinder

Puppet show and tell

Last week, the children took great interest in wearing mask and pretending to be a character. It was a lovely interaction where the children went in pair in front of the stage and created a story for their friends. The children collected all their existing knowledge and information and shared it into a story with their friends. It was lovely to see how engaged the audience was and supportive as they clapped their hands after each show. The kinders took pride in their emerging interest.

Pen control experiences (School readiness)

In regards to our school readiness program, we have been encouraging children to engage in more pen control experiences such as holding their pen with a tripod grip when drawing or writing. To help with the letter awareness, we have included some sheet with diagonal lines, curves and straight line to help the children build their fine motor confidence. The children also engaged in learning circle where they learnt to hold the scissor and cut through the newspaper. In saying that, it was interesting to see how involved the kinder was in the experience and how they decided to write their names after the experiences.

Outdoor play

We have been engaging in our outdoor play as part of our programming and planning in our centre. The children have been engaging in new learning experiences that require less water play as the days get colder. They have built interest in playing basketball or catch with their peers, making cubby house or cars with blocks, growing some winter vegetables in our garden and engaging on the mat to read books or to enjoy the sun when it's here for a play.

Transition from QK journeys to Story park

We would like to remind our families to have a browse through the Story park issue in our newsletter as we are swapping from the QK Journeys. We are also reminding our families that during the month of August, the kindergarten team is in the process of completing developmental summaries of kindergarten children of 2020 for the parent. In order to support children's transition to school and support the parents with the process, we will be conducting parent/teacher interviews in the month of August. We will keep you posted on the time scheduled for the meetings as soon as possible.
