What Are We Learning This Term?

Prep - Year 2 (Junior school

Students are working on their fundamental movement skills with a focus on throwing and catching.

Year 3 - 6(Senior school)

Students will be refining their fitness, throwing and catching along with looking at strategic use of space in game situations.

The junior and senior school will be having their school Cross Country in week 9 or 10.

It’s a running joke at Tallebudgera, that whenever we set a date for a sporting event, its postponed due to rain........ so the date for the cross country will be confirmed shortly.

Friday Afternoon Sport

Year 5 and 6 students participate in Friday afternoon sport. This goes from 2:05pm - 2:55pm every week, weather permitting.

In Term 1 and 4 we have our Interhouse Tournament where the students play against each other from different houses. In Term 2 and 3 students will practice for their Interschool Sports day. The Interschool Sports days are between 4 other schools and the students play in their selected sport. The sports on offer this year are Rugby League, Oztag, AFL, Touch Football, Soccer, Netball, Tennis and Ultimate Frisbee. Our Friday afternoon sport is free for the students and is facilitated by Tallebudgera State School staff. This term the students will be competing in the Inter-house Oztag competition with the finals being played in week 9.

Interschool Tennis Tournament

The annual Interschool Doubles Tennis Tournament is on again this year on Sunday 19 February from 7:45am- 12:00pm. The tournament is played at Queens Park Tennis Centre in Southport. It is open to students in year 4 - 6 and the cost is $10 per player. If your child is interested in playing, they must have a playing partner and come and see Mr Marais before Friday 10 February to nominate.

Free Afternoon Sport

Our free afternoon sport will kick off in Term 2 and is on a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 3 - 4pm. These sessions are held on the school oval and provide an opportunity for students to trial new sports before signing up to club sport. These sessions are completely free and are funded by the Australian Sporting Commissions Sporting Schools program. A qualified coach will run each of these sessions and a Tallebudgera State School staff member will be there to assist with supervision. Parents are invited to come and watch the afternoon sessions.

Oceanic Swimming

Good luck to our swimming students who will be competing at the Oceanic District Swimming Carnival on Thursday 16 February. A reminder to parents that their consent forms need to be returned by next week.  These students were selected from our school swimming carnival at the end of last year.

Oceanic District Trials

If your child is turning 11 or 12 this year and would like to try out for a district sport, they must write their name down to trial. Students can come to the window in the hall outside our PE office for all the upcoming district sports. The students have been informed of this process in their HPE lessons. Please note that as this is a district trial, for the safety of your child it is advised that they have participated in that sport at club level before. We can usually only send 3 students from the school. If we have more students nominate, we will run an in-school trial to select our top students to attend the district trials.

Sporting Achievements

This weekend Blake will be representing South Coast and heading to the Fraser Coast to compete in the Qld State Aquathon Titles. This is a massive achievement and a credit to all the training that Blake has been doing. Good luck Blake we are all behind you.

Yours in fitness and health
