The Tally Way

What is The Tally Way?

At Tallebudgera State School, our inclusive approach to education through valuing academic growth and wellbeing is the basis of our curriculum. This becomes the foundation of Tallebudgera’s world-class, innovative education and nurturing school community. We aim to inspire our students to strive for excellence, through engagement so that everyone has the opportunity to flourish. This philosophy, together with the development of positive, caring and mutually respectful relationships across the school community becomes ‘The Tally Way’.

Wellbeing is at the forefront of contemporary research into pedagogy and curriculum design all over the world. When a “child feels good, they function well” (Waters, 2020). Evidence shows that when students develop their social and emotional skills for wellbeing, health and safety, there is a “direct impact on their learning outcomes” (Edu QLD Wellbeing Hub, 2020). The Tally Way, informed by research, encompasses all the interactions, experiences, routines and events (planned and unplanned) that occur in our school environment, both in and out of the classroom, designed to foster children’s learning and development.

Each fortnight the classes will have a Tally Way Focus. This fortnight, for example, is Belonging. Teachers discuss and develop the student’s ideas around what it means to belong. The other focus areas include; building resilience, developing a growth mindset, persistence, friendships and respect to name a few.

Next time you are eating together maybe ask your little person what is The Tally Way?

Yours in Health & Wellbeing,
