SOLE Framework Updates

After consultation with students, staff and a small group of parents, the SOLE framework matrices have been updated.  You are able to access the matrices through the college website on this link or through PAM.

The most significant update is the addition of a separate toilets matrix for both the 5-8 and 9-12 communities.  The toilets are a tricky location as it is probably the only place where students are not supervised!  The teaching of clear expectations for all in these spaces will hopefully make the toilets a place that is used for the purpose they are intended.  One of the expectations is to ‘be timely and leave’ and this is something that we have been teaching our students in the past 7-8 days.

Another change is the categorisation of Behaviours of Concern (BOCs). There are three categories of Minor, Major and Significant. The Behaviours of Concern are also accessible from the above link and on PAM.  If the BOC is classified as ‘Minor’ then the classroom or yard duty teacher will work with the student to remind and correct the behaviour. Parents will still be notified of this BOC but you can rest assured that it has been followed up and the notification is simply to keep you informed.  If the BOC is classified as ‘Major” you can expect further follow up from your child’s TA. They will let you know a little more about the incident and what has occurred as follow up.  This communication could be by email or phone call. If the BOC is classified as ‘Significant’, it is likely that you will hear from either the Wellbeing Community Leader, the Deputy Principal Wellbeing or another Deputy Principal.  In some cases the communication may come from the College Principal.  The latter two changes are in response to feedback from parents who stated that they would like more information than the notification email sent through PAM.  We are hoping that the increased communication will alleviate these concerns.

Play Spaces

Last year we were able to use the Kyabram Recreation Reserve at lunchtimes.  We were taking students from Years 7-11 to the reserve so they could use this space.  This is a way of reducing congestion on our school oval.  At present we are unable to use the Rec Reserve, so we have been opening the Brigidine Centre at lunchtime for use by  F-6 students.  We will watch and see how we are able to have more students use our oval, but for now, F-6 students have use of the oval at recess and Years 7-12 use it at lunchtimes.
