From Student to Staff

The College has been around for 45 years this year, and over this time it has changed, expanded and built up a community in which you are all involved in today. A number of our past students, since attending, have gone on to become valued staff members here at the College.

What is your fondest memory of your years of being a student?

Building great friendships in and outside of class. Outdoor Ed camps and CSEN sporting days will always be a highlight, however, my favourite memories must come from the year 12 Common Room. From people “studying” (watching the NBA playoffs) to people burning their food in the toastie machine because they didn’t turn it off – I think there was never a dull moment.

What are some of the main differences about the College now compared to when you attended?

The Narre Warren South Campus has grown a lot from when I attended – we were the first Year 12’s to graduate only 30 students. So, there’s way more staff and students, which is a big change.

What has never changed?

Some of the staff who may or may not work here forever. But seriously, the staff’s care for the kids in their academic/personal aspirations and wellbeing will and should always separate WCC from other schools.

How long have you been with the College and what is your role?

I was a student from 2013-2017. I was the Outdoor Trainee with the NWS Campus in 2019 and returned in 2022 as a LEAPS staff member. So, I have been floating around for a while – seems like they can't quite get rid of me.

What do you love most about your role/the WCC community?

In my role in LEAPS I get to work mostly with the SPARC students. It's tiring at times, but very rewarding when you help them to complete work or strive for goals they have set. They also bring some fun into the classroom. In terms of WCC, friendly staff and a great culture that feels welcoming. You can chat to whoever and its great.

Any final thoughts/reflections on your time at WCC over the years?

It has been an interesting transition from a student to a Staff member, but I have enjoyed it all. It’s definitely more relaxing being a staff member than student because I’m not the one doing the studying 😊
