The year 7 students are certainly settling into Secondary college. They are familiar with the Learning Centre, the stadium, the science rooms and of course they all know where the canteen is located!
As part of the transition to secondary college, the students are engaged in programs such as digital literacy, completing PAT literacy and numeracy testing, and career exploration. Tomorrow, the students have a cyber safety incursion.
To date, we have had a great start and the students are catching up with old friends and making new friends in a happy and caring environment.
Thank you for ensuring your child is punctual and in full school uniform. We look forward to having an opportunity to meet you on the 23 February when we have our year 7 teachers meet the families in what we call our “Meet and Greet.” There will be more about this shortly.

As part of the transition program here at MSC Year 7s undertook an assistive technology workshop with our Inclusive Education Leader.
Throughout the session students learned about all the wonderful technology tools to support them with their learning. From dictation, editor to immersive reader which are all free on their Microsoft accounts.
Here are some quick links and tips for parents to support their child with assistive technology (that makes all our days a bit more convenient)

Oscar Bower made this amazing replica of The Titanic for a class competition held over the summer holidays.
The real life construction of The Titanic commenced in Belfast, Ireland, in 1909 and was one of three ships built by a company known as Harland and Wolff and the British shipping company, White Star Line.
The Titanic was propelled by steam engines, one of the innovations of the Industrial Revolution currently being studied by Year 9 History Students.

Students undertaking a Unit 3 & 4 study may submit an application for Special Examination Arrangements, which provides additional support to these students during the end-of-year examinations.
According to the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA), “students are eligible for Special Examination Arrangements if it can be demonstrated that their capacity to access a VCE external assessment is impaired due to one or more of the following: mental health condition, health impairment, physical disability, specific learning disorder, hearing impairment, vision impairment. Applications for Special Examination Arrangements for each student must be made through appropriate school staff, be endorsed by the principal and be supported by recent professional and/or
other specialist reports and school-based evidence,”
If you believe you are eligible, please contact Mr Kirkby, Ms Milner or Ms Romage to discuss your circumstances and allow us to support the completion of your application and provide you with the appropriate documentation.
Application forms are now available from Mr Kirkby in Year 12 and must be returned by March 10th, 2023.
On the first of February, students in the MSC Year 12 English Literature class attended a Zoom session with the acclaimed playwright Andrew Bovell.
Bovell who is internationally recognised for his writing on stage and screen, spoke to the students about genre, characterisation, and themes in Speaking in Tongues and Lantana, texts which the group are studying for their Adaptations and Transformations unit.
Bovell disclosed that he is currently adapting the script of Lantana for a new Australian mini-series.
The class was captivated by his discussion of the writing process and search for meaning through narrative. In response to a question on the mystery of identity in his work, Bovell explained that his primary interest is “the question of what it means to be human, because that's what we're all doing. We're all trying to sort out how to live the best possible life we can”.
The Year 12 English literature class was very fortunate to participate in this conversation supporting two upcoming SACs and their end of year exam.
