First XI Cricket

In the second game of term 4. Blackfriars played Westminster School. After winning the toss Blackfriars elected to bat. Barringon started strongly as wickets started falling in quick succession. Blackfriars were in trouble at 3/22 after 8 overs. Kane Flanagan came in to put on a well-deserved 41 run 4th wicket partnership. Barrington worked hard for his runs finishing with 62. The team were all bowled out for 104. Blackfriars had a short bowling session before the afternoon tea break. The aim was to take at least three wickets to put the pressure back on Westminster. Spencer and Ralph opened the bowling. There were many chances and dropped catches in the overs before tea. Excellent bowling from Ralph had Westminster 2/36 with lots of work still to do. After tea, Ralph continued to apply the pressure and bowled accurately. Ralph finished with superb figures of 4/10 after 8 overs dismissing all four top order batsmen. Barrington also took 2/16. The 7th wicket partnership was proving difficult to break as Westminster were becoming closer and closer to the target. Blackfriars lost the match by 7  wickets.

 

Blackfriars played PAC in the third game of Term 4. Blackfriars won the toss and elected to bat. It was a tough start with the loss of early wickets. Barrington (30) and Ralph put on a valuable 5th wicket partnership[ of 36 runs. Wickets were falling in quick succession with Krenske (12) and Fernando (22) providing some resistance. Blackfriars were all bowled out for 106. After tea, Blackfriars made the first breakthrough in the 5th over with Koutroulis-Duke taking an outstanding one handed catch! Blackfriars were finding it difficult to restrict the runs until another fell with another great catch from Renney. In the next over, an excellent piece of fielding from Fernando earned a run out. At this stage, there was still lots of work to do. Blackfriars were unable to take any more wickets and lost the match by 7 wickets.

 

Blackfriars play Trinity College on Saturday 11 November.

 

The First XI Cricket team play CBC in the annual three day Intercol Cricket Test Match on Monday 4, Tuesday 5 and Wednesday 6 December. More information to follow in the next newsletter.

 

Senior Water Polo

Congratulations to the Senior A Water Polo team going undefeated this season. An outstanding achievement for the team and coach Mr Jon Harmer.

 

Student Achievements

Congratulations to Isaiah Lee on being selected in the 2018 National HP Junior Table Tennis Squad. He is the only South Australian to be selected in the squad. Isaiah will be heading over to train in Shanghai for 3 weeks from 14 Dec 17 to 6 Jan 18 to hone his skills and keep up the pace with his Eastern State counterparts.
