Veritas – From the APRIM

All Saints and All Souls

November begins with our Church celebrating the feasts of All Saints (1 November) and All Souls (2 November). On Thursday 2 November, Fr Matthew Boland OP celebrated a Mass for the Souls of the faithfully departed members of our community. A book of names of those members of our community who have died was offered at Mass.  During the month of November, we will continue to remember and pray for our dearly departed loved ones.

Eternal rest, grant unto them O Lord

and let perpetual light shine upon them.

May they rest in peace. Amen

Remembrance Day

This year we commemorated Remembrance Day at our whole school assembly on Wednesday, as the 11th falls on a Saturday this year. It was an opportunity for us to come together as a community and pray for those who have died so we can enjoy the freedom we have today. It was also an occasion to pray for peace in our world and in our hearts. Special thanks to Warrant Officer Class Two William McGavin 9th Brigade for providing the Serviceman’s Address. Thanks also to the music department, especially Vincent Ravida for his outstanding rendition of the Last Post and to Mrs Petruzzella’s Year 3 class for making the poppies.

WOC2 William McGavin reminded us of the importance of stopping this Saturday at 11:00am to remember the fallen and pray for peace in our world. Please take the opportunity to stop with your son and celebrate Remembrance Day.

They shall grow not old, as we

that are left grow old.

Age shall not weary them, nor

the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun

and in the morning

We will remember them.

We will remember them.

St Albert’s Day

On Wednesday 15 November, we will be celebrating the Solemnity of our patron, St Albert the Great with a whole school Mass at 10:00am in the Neill Gymnasium, which all our community are warmly invited to attend.

There will be a BBQ lunch available for all students. Money raised from the day will go towards assisting the social justice initiatives of the YCS Team. Dress code for the day is summer uniform.

Patron Saint Feast Day Holiday

In the spirit of community celebration, Monday 13 November will be a school closure day, as we rejoice in the life and example of St Albert the Great. If you require Out of School Hours Care facilities please contact Rita Quaini on 0407 441 163 or 8169 3956.

St Vinnies Christmas Appeal

As a Catholic school in the Dominican tradition, our Pillar of Service mandates us to help others in need. We are asking families to please donate gifts, toys, money and food which will go towards the Vinnies Christmas Appeal. These much-needed items will be used by Vinnies to respond to the immediate needs of families in Adelaide over Christmas. Our YCS Captains (Phi Ai Trinh and Zen Zaccara) will be leading this initiative.

End of Year Mass and Carols

Our End of Year Mass and Carols will be celebrated on Monday 27 November at 6:30pm on the front lawns of Blackfriars. All families are sincerely encouraged to attend. It is a joyful night of giving thanks to God for the year through the celebration of the Eucharist and focus the true message of Christmas. We look forward to welcoming you on the evening.

Blessings and Peace.
