South Australian Secondary Schools State Constitutional Convention

South Australian Secondary Schools State Constitutional Convention

On Thursday 26 October, Year 11 students Guy Ward and James Smith represented Blackfriars at the SA Secondary Schools State Constitutional Convention along with delegates from other schools. Students listened to arguments both for and against changing the Australian Constitution and Head of State from tertiary academics Dr Haydon Manning, Dr Anna Olijnyk and Professor Alex Reilly.

Robust discussion took place in groups throughout the day culminating with a final debate and vote held in the House of Assembly. Both Guy and James were at first rather nervous about participating in the final debate but they both confidently stood up in front of their peers to voice their informed opinions. Both boys now have the opportunity to apply for the National Convention which will be held in Canberra next year.
