Model United Nations Conference

After weeks of preparation, the day had finally come!

Students from Year 9 to 11 had been meeting for weeks to discuss how malnutrition effects the countries  we had been allocated to represent in the United Nations Association of Australia (UNAA) Model United Nations Conference at Mentone Grammar. Before attending the event on Tuesday 28 August, we had been busy researching which countries would be our allies and our enemies and how to create the most effective decisions on behalf of our country.

Our two teams, representing Vanuatu and Afghanistan, presented our points of view on the topic of Zero Hunger, acting as official members for our country. The day was filled with debating and discussion with heated dialogue from unexpected powerhouse countries. All the preparation was well worth the fun that we had on the day, and we all learnt so much about not only international relations and the effects hunger has on the world, but also public speaking, self-confidence and team work! It was also a great opportunity to form friendships with other students, as well as meeting like-minded students from other schools across Melbourne.

Thank you to the teachers that supported us on the day, but especially to Ms  Wendy Harvey for all the time and passion she put in to prepare us for the day.
