CERES Environment Park excursion

On Friday 8 September, the Unit 2 Environmental Science class visited CERES Environment Park in East Brunswick. They are currently studying the impacts of pollution and how we can use environmental indicators to assess the health of the environment.

The students spent the day gaining valuable fieldwork skills whilst investigating the health of the environment around Merri Creek. In the morning we went on an urban impact walk and were shocked to see the large number of plastic bottles that littered the banks of the creek! Then in the afternoon we spent some time conducting water quality tests and attempted, without much success to catch some of the different macro-invertebrates that call the creek home. From the information that they collected the students were able to conclude that Merri Creek is a healthy waterway and emphasised how important it is to keep our environment clean.
