INTERMEDIATE ROUND ROBIN

On Wednesday 23 August the Kingston Term 3 Intermediate Round Robin took place at a variety of venues across South East Melbourne. Congratulations to the Boys Hockey and Boys and Girls Basketball who won through to further rounds during Term 4. Unfortunately, Futsal has no future pathway. Thanks to all the players for representing the school on the day and the coaches for giving up their time.

INTERMEDIATE GIRLS HOCKEY

On Wednesday 23 August, a minibus of excited but somewhat inexperienced hockey players made its way to Brighton Secondary College to face off with their team for the Kingston Division Pennant. After a number of afternoon training sessions, the Intermediate Girls team felt confident enough to bring their A-game to the field. It was an evenly matched and high-intensity game up until the last few minutes, in which a stellar goal from Anna Willaton gave us the lead of 1-0 to go on to win the game.

The girls and Ms Hooper are more than excited to compete the upcoming Regional Finals on Thursday 2 November. Thanks to Mrs Hooper for coaching us.

SENIOR BOYS FOOTBALL

2017 proved to be a monumental year for football at McKinnon. In the wake of the first ever season of the Old McKinnon Under 19 side in the VAFA, our very own Senior Boys Football side won through to the State Final. After defeating all before them at the Kingston, SMR and State Quarter Final levels, the boys came up against the highly fancied Northcote High School, who had comfortably dealt with Maribyrnong College, in the State Semi Final.

A slow start in the Final, saw the boys concede the first four goals of the match, before wrestling their way back into the contest with some fantastic football throughout the second and third quarters in particular.

But it wasn’t to be, and the campaign for 2017 was over with a four goal loss. The boys should be proud of their achievement to be State Runners-Up.
