SUNNYVILLE DVD SALES

If you haven’t ordered yours already, there is still time to buy the Sunnyville DVD - don’t miss out! You can take home the memories to show family and friends again and again, and if you didn't have the chance to see it on the day, now is your chance. Thanks for all your support for our incredible Sunnyville concert. From photos and posters, to prop making, it was truly a community project. The students were overwhelmed with the support in the rehearsals and on performance day. The students had a wonderful experience and loved performing.  I hope you got the chance to see all of our Ripponlea talent live. If not, or you want to own Sunnyville forever, DVDs are now on sale at a cost of $35 per DVD. This includes the show as well as some beautiful performance photos.

All payments can be made via QKR or at the school office.

The deadline for this is Friday 11th October.

Many thanks,

Ms Abi - Performing Arts

This week on Friday is our School Fun-Run!

The event will kick off at 1.15pm on the Oval. We look forward to seeing all students get involved and having heaps of fun on the last day of term. Students will finish the Fun Run just before the early dismissal at 2.30pm, but students can get changed before they go home.

We thank all those students who have been actively fundraising. Over 120 students so far have created an online profile. The school is going to benefit massively from this effort of fundraising, and we thank you all. There’s still time (deadline 4th October) to head online and create an account at schoolfundraising.com.au and access online fundraising. There are also heaps of prizes to choose from and the majority of the money raised will go towards continuing to develop sporting opportunities at Ripponlea.

What students need to wear and bring on the day:

  • Students come to school in normal school uniform
  • Students at lunch eating time will have the chance to change and should wear an old white t-shirt or a t-shirt that you don’t mind being ruined. The colour is made from food colouring, so can stain. If they don’t want the colour powder thrown on them, please just wear a normal school t-shirt, so this identifies these students.
  • If students prefer to wear old clothing below the waist, please bring some old shorts or joggers that students can get changed into at lunch time.
  • If students own a scarf or a bandana it is suggested to wear this over the nose and mouth, so to avoid the stinky smell and breathing in the colour powder.
  • It is possible that water will be involved on the day if the weather is pleasant, so we suggest that students bring a towel and a change of clothes to avoid colour transfer in cars on the way home or a chilly walk.

Finally, we’d love to see you all down there on the day cheering the kids on… Everyone’s invited!

F-2 Athletics Carnival

What a fantastic and energetic way to start a morning! Our F-2 students were full of house spirit and support for each other as they went around the six athletic events raising house points. The morning was opened with information about the activities from Polly, one of our School Captains, and then our House Captains superbly ran each activity with clear instructions and demonstrations. We thank our parents who came along to support the morning and even more so, those that took part in the fun parent sack race. It was a tight competition in the end for which House would take the title. The final results were:

1st = Loch

2nd = Carrington

3rd = Furneaux

4th = Orrong

Massive congratulations to those 12 students (pictured) who received a ‘Good Sport’ ribbon for exemplary demonstration of sportsmanship throughout the carnival.

MISS ZOE

A student in Foundation asked me the other day who my favourite artist was. Put on the spot, it was difficult for me to name just one because I have so many. After thinking about the question I decided to compose a list. I composed a list of Australian artists and a list of international artists. The artists on the lists often (and more times than not) give me ideas for areas of study in my classes. In 2014 completely inspired by my travels through Europe to Monet’s Garden, Dali’s house and Gaudi’s La Sagrada Familiar, my interest in sharing my love for artists and their work influenced my teaching and it now forms the basis for any planning.

I believe that art education is about developing one’s individual art practice in addition to developing one’s aesthetic judgements through art appreciation and exposure to other artists' work and an artist's practice.

So in no particular order, here are my lists of favourite artists.

10 of my favourite international artists:

Frida Kahlo

Andy Warhol

Salvador Dali

Claude Monet

Georgia O’Keeffe

Vincent Van Gogh

Cindy Sherman

Egon Schiele

Francisco Goya

Toulouse Lautrec

Ai Wei Wei

10 of my favourite Australian artists:

Jeffrey Smart

Fred Williams

John Olsen

Joy Hester

Patricia Picnic

Margaret Preston

Howard Arkley

Brett Whiteley

Del Kathryn Barton

Margaret Olley

NEWS FROM THE ART ROOM

As Term 3 comes to an end, some year levels are starting a new artist study in preparation for their projects in Term 4. Year 1&2 started looking at Georgia O’Keeffe’s work while Foundation is looking at Monet and the famous waterlilies.

Year 3&4 continue to impress me with their landscape paintings (see below).
