WHSC Review, 2018

As mentioned in previous Newsletters, our College has been involved in a College Review in 2018.   An independent Reviewer has developed a Final Report from this important process with the Report tabled at Council last week (24/10).  The Report includes our progress over the last Strategic Planning Period (2015 - 2018), together with providing recommendations for the future.

The Report highlights a number of positives for the College.  We are making progress in a number of areas such as some of our VCE and NAPLAN results to some of the opinion data about our school.

The Report also highlights areas where we can make further improvements.  These areas can be linked to the recommended Goals for the next Strategic Planning Period (2019 - 2022):

- Maximising student outcomes and achievements

- Further empowering students to actively engage in their learning

- Further developing teacher and leadership capacity relating to differentiated learning

We are interested to hear from our parents and guardians in relation to our next Strategic Plan.  We will be holding a special forum on Wednesday 14th of November at 5:00 to 5:45pm at the College for parents and guardians.  Please register your interest at the General Office.

Presentation Evening, 2018

The WHSC Presentation Evening, 2018, promises to be another fantastic event for our College.  Our Presentation Evening allows our students to be recognised for their achievements across all learning domains and in a number of co-curricular areas.

This year we are fortunate to have as our key note speaker, Susan Alberti.  Susan has achieved so much in her life and we are really looking forward to hearing her message to our College Community as part of our Presentation Evening.

Please read on for Susan's biography:

College Captains, 2019

The role of College Captain is a significant role within the College. Our College Captains are expected to adhere to high standards with respect to their learning and participation, together with being outstanding representatives of our school.

We use a very thorough process to help us appoint our College Captains consisting of written applications, presentations to staff and students as well as formal interviews to help us decide who should be appointed to these important positions.

After working through what was a rigorous process, we can now announce our new College Captains for 2019:

College Captain - Issy Jones

College Captain - Jasmine Sweeney

College Vice Captain - Kyle Gwynne

College Vice Captain - Ben Segal

We congratulate our new College Captains on their appointments for 2019.

WHSC Languages Committee, 2018 - Parent Focus Group

The WHSC Languages Committee is interested to hear more from our parents and guardians about our Languages Program.

We are running a Parent Focus Group on Thursday 15th of November from 5:00 to 5:45pm at the College.  The WHSC Languages Committee has planned a discussion activity on the day. To register your interest for this important event, please contact the General Office.

Social Media

We encourage responsible use of Social Media amongst our students.  There has been a number of instances in recent times where posts on Social Media platforms have had an impact on relations between students at the College. Our staff have had to spend an inordinate amount of time and effort to then try and resolve any issues emanating from these posts, which then takes them away from their core business of teaching and learning.

Please read on in the Newsletter for some helpful 'hints and tips' with respect to the use of Social Media.

Value of the Week - Creativity

We congratulate all of our students who have contributed to the successful Arts and Technology Exhibition for 2018.  We recognise the effort and creativity of all of the students involved.

The Exhibition will continue over the coming weeks and we encourage families to drop in and view the spectacular works on display.

And finally.............

The Year 12 Celebration Day (24/10) was a huge success with staff, students and families all in attendance. Our Year 12 students were very creative with their costumes on the day! We commend our students for their respectful and responsible approach to their festivities, and we wish them well for their exams.
