Long Tan Youth Leadership and Teamwork Awards 2O2O

The ADF Long Tan Youth leadership and Teamwork Awards are an important Government initiative to encourage Senior students, tomorrow's leaders, to actively participate in the life of their school and community. Each year the Australian Defence Force provides the opportunity for schools to nominate students for one of two ADF awards that recognise the achievement and potential of Young people in their School Communities.

The St. Peter's College Cranbourne Campus nominees were submitted in 2020 and we have recently learned of two successful nominations. The two successful students each received a certificate of acknowledgement with a cheque for $250.  In the category of Leadership and Team for her work representing the student body as a prominent member of the Student Representative Council and as a College Tour Guide the award went to Charlotte Jewell of Assisi House and in the Category of Future Innovators for his brilliance and achievement in at least one element of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) the award went to Jason Chan who successfully completed Year 11 Mathematical Methods in Year 10 is undertaking Specialist Maths in Year 11 while showing his commitment to the College as a regular musical performer for College events. Congratulations to both Charlotte and Jason.

"Hello, I am Cha. Most of my hobbies are based around Performing Arts. I have been in a number of productions including my schools musical in 2018 and this year too. I have an interest in music, dance, technology and video games. I have a strong interest in Legal Studies as one of my classes this year."

"I was never one for sports. I tried to pick up soccer when I was younger, but that died out quickly. I've always been more interested in more indoor activities. Playing the piano has always been a hobby of mine ever since I started taking lessons in primary school. While it has always been a side hobby, I'd like to think I've improved significantly in these past few years. Being a part of the Marian house forum, I have made an effort to contribute in multiple house activities for the house and help out in any events held by Marian or the school. I've never considered myself or aimed to be a top student, all I've done was pay attention during class and complete homework when necessary and I've ended up where I am today. While I do appreciate where I am for now, I will continue to improve and strive to become even better, if not more than I am now."

Year 12 2021

Tips and Tricks for the last 6 months

Recently our parents, guardians and the Year 12's themselves were informed of the opportunity to come along to the College for an evening to learn more about what the final months of secondary School at St. Peter's College will look like as well as tips for supporting their young people to manage some of the pressures to come. The evening promises to be an engaging one that is less about the specific details about VCE and VCAL and more about managing pressures, what graduation and valedictory celebrations will look like and how to support our young people in the period following graduation. I encourage all of our parents and guardians of Year 12 students to make themselves available for this evening to be held in the recently renovated Donnelly building from 7.00pm-8.00pm on Tuesday, 11 May 2021. Please RSVP - to House Leaders or Learning Advisors.

Common Room

Following a very professional proposal from our Student Leadership and with the availability of a room due to the re-opening of the Donnelly building, a trial of a Year 12 Common Room is occuring in Term 2. This is a space where our Year 12 students are able to meet and share their Year 12 experiences, further develop their connections with each other as graduation approaches and a place exclusive to them to be able to debrief about some of the challenges and opportunities that are unique to this final year of secondary school. It is hoped that the connections forged through the creation of this space will help galvanise and support the group as the pressures of VCE and VCAL increase.

Safe Around Schools

Safe and legal parking around schools

A timely reminder to the school community about the importance of safe and legal parking around schools during school drop off and pick up times.

Parents must not:

  • Drop off or pick up in No Stopping areas.
  • Park on a nature strip.
  • Drop off or pick up while double parked or waiting in traffic.
  • Leave their cars parked/unattended in a No Parking zone.
  • Wait in No Parking zones for longer than 2 minutes.

We especially want to remind parents that No Parking zones outside schools are for quick drop off and pick up. Parents who need to leave their cars need to find legal parking somewhere else.

A tip for parents using the No Parking zones during the afternoon pick up times.

Arrive a couple of minutes after the school bell to ensure your child is at the zone ready to be picked up.  Do not sit and wait in the No Parking zone for longer than the legal 2-minute period.

Illegal parking around schools puts children and other pedestrians at risk of serious injury. Parking Compliance Officers enforce all parking restrictions around schools and cars parked illegally may receive parking infringements.
