Clyde North Campus News

Term 2 Begins

As we begin the second term, the sun is fading by early afternoon with the end of daylight savings and the presence of students in winter uniform signifies the end of the warm weather. However, we are rested and ready to begin what will be a busy, productive and engaging term

The term begun with Student Led Conferences where we welcomed many parents onsite for face to face conferences as well as utilising our expertise in zoom to support parents who needed to access the conferences remotely. As parents and guardians, we should never underestimate the critical role we can play in contributing to the effective learning growth of our children. The partnership between teachers and parents must be nurtured to remain strong and effective. We need to stay in touch throughout the year and this can be easily done via email, zoom, or a telephone conversation.

A beautiful ANZAC service was conducted on Monday, 26 April 2021, led by our College Captains. The service was planned meticulously by our VCAL students who recreated a Flanders Field with its own sense of sacredness through red poppies and white crosses. As a community we reflected, prayed and remembered. Once again, we were fortunate to have Eliza Black, play the Last Post and The Rouse, moving the community to a most reverent state.  Our sincere thanks to Eliza for giving of her time so generously. We also extend our thanks to Mr Barry Rogers who shared his wisdom and insight into the true ANZAC spirit. Mia and Dwayne’s rendition of the National Anthem was a fitting and moving end to the service.  As part of our community we welcomed guests from St Thomas the Apostle Parish and residences from Blue Hills who remained for a morning tea of scones, jam and cream and freshly brewed coffee.

Building works at Clyde North

We are again in the mist of building works with the scope of this project, a Performing Arts Centre inclusive of a theatrette, beginning to be realised. The level of complexity and detail involved with just the foundations of this build is indeed impressive.

These awards formally recognise students who have demonstrated leadership and teamwork within their school, broader community and who display strong personal ethical values to serve others with humility and purpose. Congratulations Dominic and Isabella. This is a most prestige award and attracts a bursary of $250 for each recipient.

The last word comes from a student who has since reflected on Harmony Day Term 1

"This was my first harmony day at St. Peter’s College. When I was asked to be on a panel of students that would share their story, I was somewhat nervous about being interviewed by Mr Black. At the same I was willing to introduce myself to everyone, and my new community. The questions Mr Black asked gave me the opportunity to tell my story about my heritage my, family including my thoughts about racism in Australia. I really enjoyed the experience and can honestly say how welcomed I have been made to feel since joining St. Peter’s College. Harmony Day was a wonderful event filled with beautiful dances, shared stories and multicultural food produced by the VCAL students that was scrumptious. This was a great way to embrace the beauty that is our multicultural Australia."

- Mark, (Yr 12 new in 2021)

I wish you all a safe and productive week.
