Deputy Principal Updates:

Welcome back everyone to Term Two. I hope you and your family had a restful holiday and are ready for what has already started as a very busy term. Mr Keenan and his family are enjoying their well deserved break and are currently in the beautiful Byron Bay area. Mr Keenan will be back at school on Monday 10th May - I know I can't wait to have him back!
There has been slow movement in the new building these past few weeks as we wait for supplies to arrive. Co-vid is still playing havoc with deliveries.
On the news lately there has been a lot of reporting about the serious situation in India concerning coronavirus. We know that this must be impacting many families in our school community. I know everyone in the St Luke's community will keep these families in our prayers and thoughts in this difficult time.
Please also keep Miss Gabriella Mercuri and her family in your prayers as her father recovers from a serious accident this week .
Parent -Teacher Communication and Morning Routine.
Although Term One saw less parents on school grounds, the communication between teachers and parents was still very evident. Phone calls, zoom meetings, emails, face to face meetings are all ways to keep in touch with your child's teacher and their learning. If you have any concerns please make contact.
As restrictions ease we welcome parents to enter school grounds. In the morning if you would like to walk your child to their class please feel free to do so remembering that they are all capable of carrying and unpacking their own bags themselves. There is a wonderful quote that I have used throughout my teaching career "Never do for a child what they can do for themselves". Your support in building resilient, responsible and capable students is much appreciated.
Pedestrian Crossing
It is imperative that ALL adults use pedestrian crossings when dropping off or picking up students. It is a safety issue for everyone and as adults we need to be setting good examples for the students to follow. Your cooperation with this matter is vital!
Library Monitors
Congratulations to the following students who applied and were successful in being chosen as Library Monitors at St Luke's. Nicholas Antonello, Bridget Summers, Immanuel Tom Bijo, Sharon Shelly, Reshmi Pal, Eva Boby, Lilly Heggart, Indi Payne, Kiara Payne,Evelyn Rony, Lillian Phillip and Harper Daniel.
We look forward to seeing great leadership from these students in their new roles.
Naplan.
Naplan testing for students in Year 3 and 5 will occur during Week 4 from Tuesday to Thursday with tests covering Reading, Writing, Language Conventions and Numeracy. Pending technical issues, all tests will be completed on school devices. If you have any concerns regarding your child taking these tests please make contact with their teacher as soon as possible.
BookClub
Book Club will now only be available online or through the App. Everyone has made the smooth transition with online lunch orders so hopefully there won't be any issues. Please either ask myself or at the office if you need help setting up the app.
Student Celebration Page
A new page was added to the newsletter
last edition, celebrating students and their achievements outside of school. This could be in the area of sport, music, the Arts, competitions etc. If your child is involved in something that could be shared with the school community please email myself or the office to let us know and we will do our best to acknowledge their achievements.
