Our Big Back Yard (OBBY)  Launch  - West Torrens

Our Big Backyard (OBBY) is a nature-based play program for children that encourages family connectedness through play and exploration.  This project has a community engagement focus where families and children are consulted and encouraged to explore where they live and who they share the community with.  

Since August 2019, a group of dedicated Lockleys North Primary School students including Isaac, Chloe, Liam, Lucas M, Lucas H and Nayia have been local champions, sharing their voice at the working group level on the OBBY committee.  Lockleys North Primary School, Lockleys Children’s Centre, Cowandilla Primary School and Children’s Centre and Torrensville Primary School are partners in this new project alongside the City of West Torrens and Department of Human Services and Green Adelaide.  

We are very excited to be launching the Our Big Backyard (OBBY) West Torrens resources in the upcoming school holidays. Come on an adventure with the Our Big Backyard team and discover a new destination to explore along the River Torrens on Thursday, 22nd April from 10:00 am- 12:00 pm at the River Torrens Boat Race Adventure, Sherriff Street & Chatswood Grove, Underdale, SA 5032.  

This is an outdoors program, so please dress in comfortable clothes that can get dirty and are suitable for weather conditions on the day, including hat and sturdy shoes.  Parents need to accompany their children for this free event. If you live close by we recommend you enjoy walking and talking your way there or ride your bikes.

If there is forecast of heavy rain, strong winds or storms on the morning of the session it will be cancelled.  You will be emailed to confirm this.

We require details for each person attending as per COVID-19 restrictions. Social distancing will be in place and hand sanitiser will be provided. Please do not attend if you are feeling unwell.

Bookings are essential and numbers will be limited.
