One Act Play Festival

On Tuesday, the One Act Play Festival came to the Black Box stage and after such a long break from live theatre, it was great to see students from Years Seven to Twelve perform.

One Act Play is a co-curric that only occurs in Term One where students form groups and have to come up with an idea for a play, write their own scripts, rehearse, and then perform to an audience over the course of six weeks. This co-curric provides students with the opportunity to dive into their creative side and also helps build confidence, leadership, and teamwork skills.

After much effort and commitment, it was great to see all the hard work from students come to fruition. In total, there were eight groups performing on the night, all from different Year levels. From comedy to drama, with aspects of mystery, and even romance. However, while all plays were original, all had a re-occurring theme. For the first time in One Act Play history, all students were given the challenge of writing original scripts to the prescribed theme of "2040". And what a challenge it was. However, it is safe to say that all groups did an outstanding job deserving a well-earned standing ovation!

At the end of the night, there were also many awards up for grabs including the prestigious Best Play award. This Year, the plays were judged by returning Girton students Maggie Ryan (12 Frew 2020) and Jack Smith (12 Riley 2020) who are experts in all things drama.

It was a rewarding and highly enjoyable night, and as drama captains, we had so much fun seeing all groups take to the stage. We are so proud of all the students and we are still applauding you from afar!
