From the Principal

So much takes place in a school over a ten-week term, and the highlights have been many and varied. Our many activities outside the classroom have involved all aspects of our community.  Our Years 7 and 12 students took some time away from our College setting to engage with each other in a retreat format.  The stories, the learning and the fun of these experiences was certainly evident in the time I was able to spend with these students while on camp.  Our F-2 students certainly enjoyed their after school stays and our Year 2 students in particular, enjoyed their ‘camp out’ in the Brigidine Centre.

This term I have had the opportunity to witness many great learning opportunities for our students.  The unique blessing of being part of an F-12 community, is that one minute you can be in a Year 12 specialist Maths class in what looks like a completely different language, then be entering a Foundation classroom where the students are adding 5+5.  While the content looks different, the smile and sense of accomplishment is always the same.  I have no doubt that many of our families can also relate to this in their time with their children last year during remote learning.

Today we held our annual Lent/Easter Liturgy, a time that we are able to reflect on the sacrifice Jesus made.  With restrictions looking much different to the same time last year, I certainly hope many Easter family gatherings can be celebrated this year.

With the easing of restrictions, information has now been sent to all families regarding parents and caregivers entering school grounds and classrooms.  This has no doubt been a change to what we have always known, however, we are very grateful for the way in which students and families have responded.  The resilience that we have witnessed is another key ingredient to the development of all individuals.  It will remain important that these guidelines sent to families are adhered to from the start of Term 2.

As the cooler weather approaches, it is important that our students prepare their winter uniform over the holiday break.  Our compliance towards school uniform has come a long way over the past couple of years and this year we have continued to witness this improvement. Saying this, some families have not actively supported this simple requirement.  For the 95% of families who ensure their children are adhering to the uniform guideline, I say thank you for your ongoing support.  I understand that it is not always easy having these conversations with your children in the morning, however your persistence in taking responsibility is truly valued.  For the 5% of students and families that continue to breach these guidelines, I ask that they take the time over the holiday period to address this matter.  Our focus will always remain on the learning and wellbeing of our students however, we will also set high standards for the guidelines that have been developed by staff, students and families.  And again for the 5%, as the cool weather approaches, hoodies and beanies will be confiscated if worn on College grounds.

It is easy to see why time flies by so quickly and yet hard to believe we have come to the end of our first term for the year!  As we head into the term break and Easter, may you all find some time to rest, relax and reflect on the hope and love of the risen Christ.

Happy holidays!!!!

Take care
