Loddon Mallee Swimming Championships

It was another fantastic effort from our four swimmers who represented Campaspe at the Loddon Mallee Regional swimming carnival in Swan Hill during Week 8.

  • Harry Shortis came away with five 1st place medallions in the 50m, 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle and 50m butterfly.
  • Hanna Taylor achieved 1st place in the 50m backstroke, 4th in the 200m freestyle and 50m butterfly.
  • Sarah Whelan achieved 4th placing in the 50m butterfly.
  • Anja Taylor also placed 1st in her 50m breaststroke event.

Well done to all of these students for their efforts. Anja, Hanna and Harry have qualified for the State swimming championships early in Term 2. These events will be live-streamed from the School Sports Victoria website via the following link watch.SSVtv.live

Videos of some of Harry and Sarah's swims can be found below.

Years 7-12 Badminton

On Wednesday 24th March, a selected group of Years 8 to 12 students headed off to Echuca to compete against Nathalia Secondary College and Kyabram P-12 in Badminton. We had three teams that successfully won their age group and will play on at the next stage against different schools from other divisions.  These were the Year 8 boys, Year 8 girls and Year 9 girls. We also had a Year 11/12 boys team, which did not make it through but played some tough games in a round-robin tournament showing off their badminton skills.

Most teams played in practice rounds to prepare for their final game which in order to go through to the next round, they had to win.  Our year 9 girls team successfully won against every team they played.

All teams displayed great sportsmanship and skills and we congratulate our teams moving forward to not only represent the school but the Campaspe school district at the Loddon Mallee finals in Terms 2 and 3.

Years 5-6 Tennis

A big congratulations to Mia, Miley, Wil and Antony who represented the College on Monday 10th March at the Campaspe tennis trials. All four students showed great initiative scoring their close and challenging games.

Mia and Miley played well and won their pools, progressing to the next round on 29th March.

Miley and Mia further represented the College at the Regional Tennis in Swan Hill, both girls were very competitive throughout this tournament. Miley finished 3rd in her pool for the day.

Mia won all her matches in her pool, progressing to the final and placed second overall. Mia will be representing the college at the state final.

Well done to all four students and good luck Mia at the state final!

Years 5-12 Cross Country

This year, the Cross Country event was held around the Parkland Golf Course in Kyabram. A cracking day greeted the Years 5-8 students and the 9-12 students who signed up for the event. The course itself gave students a great range of surfaces to run on as well as an opportunity to check out the beautifully manicured greens and fairways of the course.

It was great to see so many students striving to do their best and sprint through the final parts of the course. Delany house continued their great form from the Swimming Carnival and took out the overall points for the day. Congratulations to Isla Carver (12.24) and both Bailey White and Oskar Shortis (10.03) who completed the 3km course in the fastest times.

From this event, some students will be given the chance to represent St. Aug's at the Campaspe Cross Country in Term 2. Thanks to all the staff who helped on the day and a big shout out to Peter Fawcett and Molly Carver for setting up the track in the morning!

Year 8 Tennis

C'mon!

It was a chilly start to the Years 7/8 Tennis event held at Kyabram Lawn Courts on Tuesday 30th March. The day began with a bye which gave our players more time to fuel up with pre-game snacks including gummy bears and popcorn. Some pre-game tunes including Eye of the Tiger and Hit Me With Your Best Shot spun by DJ Miss Morrissey put the pep in our players' steps as they took to the courts. Pre-match hydration was a key focus, though a minor incident with Jim’s drink bottle saw him wear more of it's contents than he consumed.

Jim and Jack (Year 8) hit well in their first match, defeating St Joseph’s 6-1. Bill and Ben started the day positively beating their St Joseph’s opponents 6-5.

Our St Augustine’s ladies Katerina and Matilda communicated well as doubles players defeating their St Joseph’s opponents 6-4 but it was much closer for Ava and Sharni who went down 6-5 to their skilled opponents.

A quick killer python down the hatch in between matches kept the energy levels of our St Aug’s boys high as they slid around the court. In Round 2, St Augustine’s took on Rochester Secondary College. Though through effort comes achievement, Rochester Secondary’s efforts were not enough to overcome the Strength and Kindliness of our Year 8 players with Bill and Ben triumphing 6-0. Matilda and Katerina were also too strong for the Rochester ladies with a rapid 6-1 victory. Ava and Sharni won 6-2 and were humble winners.

As the day started to warm up at midday so too did the stakes to make it through to the next level. Tiny teddies and pre-game cookies helped settle the nerves in readiness for Round 3. We took on Echuca Secondary College and Jim and Jack had a further win, 6-1, as did Bill and Ben winning convincingly, 6-0. Our ladies also had wins against Echuca Secondary College.

The last round of the day rolled on and our boys teams were unstoppable. In Round 4, Bill and Ben won 6-1 and Jack and Jim won 6-0 against Saint Mary of the Angels. Katerina and Matilda won their final match of the day 6-3 and Ava and Sharni won 6-4.

A post-match packet of rice crackers aided the team's recovery. We’ve made it through to the next stage and are open to Australian Open wildcards and sponsorship offers...preferably from Allen’s Lollies!
