Bill Turner Cup 

Last Wednesday our U15 girls soccer team traveled to Inverell for the Bill Turner Cup. O'Connor played Inverell and one 12-0. On  Monday they will play at Rologas Fields in Armidale at 10am. 

Emma Gray NSW CCC Selection

 

Congratulations to Emma Gray and Imogen Hislop who travelled to Sydney for the NSW Catholic Colleges Under 16 girls hockey team. Emma was selected in the team and will now progress to further trials and participate in a tri -school representative day. 

Emma has been training hard maintain this high level of athleticism and we look forward to hearing about all her experiences at the upcoming trials. 

 

Diocesan Tennis 

O'Connor's Tennis Squad of 6 students participated in Dio tennis at Gunnedah last Thursday.  All of the athletes played a mixture of singles and doubles with great success. Charo Brown (Yr7) played exceptionally well in the girls competition.  All students should be commended on their efforts and sportsmanship.

Diocesan Cross Country

 A number of our distance athletes from the College traveled to the Dio Cross Country competition in Gunnedah last Thursday with three of our students, Tom Bible, Chelsea Morley and Aleesha Stuart being named Age Champions.  We look forward to watching their progress through to CCC National Cross Country Championships. 

 

 

Futsal News

 

In the April holidays Ruby-Maree Bennett participated in a State Futsal competition in Sydney. She represented NSW Sydney and performed very well. 

Girls’ Rugby

You heard it here first...girls’ Rugby is back! This week the OCC Girls’ Rugby squad had their first training session of the year. 

We’ve been super lucky to secure funding from Sporting Schools for professional coaches to come in and take the training sessions. This year, we have Coach Hagen working with the girls in preparation for their upcoming Friday night competition which commences on Friday 7th May. If you would like to start playing Girls’ Rugby, please come and have a chat with Ms Mellowship-Brown.  123...OCC!

 

National Track and Field Championships 2021

 

We are lucky in Armidale to have a strong athletics community with excellent coaches. Brook Newberry and Emerson Fittler competed at the Championships, adding to their racing experience at a high performance level. 

 

Brooke raced on the second Wednesday of the school holidays, (14 April) in the U15 3000m race walk. She walked a time of 17:32.21 to place 13th in Australia. 

Emerson Fittler also had a great meet competing in the U18 200m, 400m and 4 x 400m (NSW team).

 

Emerson Fittler - Emmerson came 7th in the Final of the U18 400m.

 

 

 

Emerson Fittler - Emerson Fittler ran a strong 400m leg in the Men's U18 NSW 4x400m relay team to contribute to winning gold in the event in a time of 3:22.24.

Netball

 

On Tuesday this week, 64 of the College' netball players competed in the Netball NSW Schools Cup. Mr Honeysett reported that the athletes played some skilful netball throughout the day.  At the completion of the event, both of our boys, our Year 7, 8 and 10 girls and 7/8 boys as well as 9/10 boys have progressed through to the next round which will be held in Tamworth on 27 July.  Thanks to Miss Annbell Cullen, Miss Caitlin Honeysett, Mr Mark Honeysett, Mrs Ruth Patrick and Mrs Renee Russell, who helped and coached on the day. 

State Sporting Championships

The NSW Pony Club Association State Sporting Championships, hosted by Zone 13 were held in Walcha on the 3rd and 4th April. COVID restrictions meant that interstate visitors could not compete. Despite this, there were over 200 competitors.  Jess Swanton riding 'Digger' had the following results;
