Year Advisers Reports

Years 8, 10 & 12

YEAR 8

Year 8 have had a very busy start to Term 2 with Cross Country in the first week and Athletics Carnival in Week 3.  Students participated with enthusiasm and enjoyed both days.

Congratulations to all our age champions!!

Next week is our Year 8 camp! Students have been looking forward to going to camp since finding out the news we were able to reschedule their Year 7 Camp to 2021.

There will be fun activities including abseiling, rock climbing, archery, and pioneering, to name a few. Next newsletter I will have lots to report on all the fun they had.

For the rest of the term Year 8 have two more eventful days to look forward, High Resolves, Thursday 17 June and Welfare Day, Thursday 24 June. Both days will be beneficial for students to help with their Global Awareness and Mental Health.

This term students will find they will have many assessment tasks as teachers complete their half year reports which will be out at the end of the term.  Please remember if you need any help or have questions with your work, to ask for assistance before the assessment is due. Planning ahead is a very important skills for students to learn.

YEAR 10

A very warm welcome back to Year 10!

Term 2 is sure to be a busy time for us with assessments, excursions, incursions, immunisations and Stage 6 information nights just to name a few!

I’d like to start off by congratulating our fabulous Year 10 Peer Mentors for all of their outstanding efforts supporting Year 7 at Camp last term. I was blown away with their maturity, enthusiasm and encouragement as they worked with their Year 7 peers to ensure the best overall experience was had. Well done to Max Lewry, Preeya Brown, Mason Bruinning, Melanie Strybis, Lachlan Knowles, Ella Lauchlan, Fletcher Hartley, Lachlan Gunn, Samantha Edwards-McCallan, Vesna Bakarich-Davies, Excel Egwutuoha, Jessica Hayward, Alexander McGavin, Callum Kennedy and Leah Reynolds.

Immunisations are happening on Thursday 10 June for Year 10. Please return your forms for this as soon as possible.

Another event to mark in the calendar will be our two Senior Pathways evenings happening Thursday Week 6 and Thursday Week 8. Please come along to receive information on all things Stage 6, this is also a great opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

Well done to Year 10 on their participation in the annual HKHS Cross Country carnival. It was great to see so many students participating and gaining valuable house points. Let’s continue this school spirit as we demonstrate our sporting prowess once again at this years Athletics Carnival taking place on Friday 7 May.

Looking forward to another exciting term!

YEAR 12

Week 3 Term 2 already!

The time is flying by and at this stage students should be really stepping up their efforts, keeping up with classwork, working on major projects and preparing summaries in anticipation of their Trial HSC Exams next term.

As the pressure starts to build students should ensure that they maintain a healthy lifestyle, cut down on part-time job hours and reach out for support when needed. At school we have Student Services, School Counsellor, Deputy Prinicpal Mrs James and of course me!

Year 12 have been busy with their fundraising efforts and on Saturday we were lucky enough to run a Bunnings BBQ which really helped with our efforts. Many thanks to all of our wonderful Year 12 students who came to work, they did a fantastic job. Thank you also to the teachers who supported us by buying sandwiches, and to the staff who helped out – Miss Hammond, Ms Keft and Miss Ridley. Students will also be running the BBQ at the Athletics Carnival so we wish them well with that.

Your student leadership team continue with their hard work, very ably lead by Brandon and Imogen. Their efforts are a credit to themselves and their year group. We are so proud of Brandon reaching the state final of Lions Youth of the Year in Canberra. Unfortunately he didn’t get the win but what a fantastic effort to make it that far.

The HSC timetable was released last week so it may be a good time to write down your exam times.
