Cross Country and ANZAC Day
and more...
This years Cross Country Carnival was held on Friday, 23rd April at Caniaba Public School. For a small school Larnook made a big impact! Congratulations to all those who attended to support and all those who ran on the day.
The results were excellent! Issi came first in her age group, Marshall came 4th , Zai came 5th and Mahni in her first year at school managed to be placed 2nd!
Well done, everyone!
During week 4 this term (from 11th May) NAPLAN testing will be held at school for Years 3 and 5. Most of the testing, which covers Literacy and Numeracy, will be done online.
ANZAC Day fell on a Sunday this year and the Friday before was the Cross Country Carnival, so we commemorated the day on Monday, 26th April.
On the day, the Dragonflies did some work in the morning with Ms Fish about the meaning of ANZAC Day. After lunch, the whole school came together and Sonic, Issi and Myrtle shared some of their ANZAC Day research with us.
We then made ANZAC biscuits and poppies – purple and red. We learn that red poppies are the traditional flower to remember the fallen humans in the war, but purple poppies help us remember all the animals who were killed in war. We also purchased a rosemary shrub which will be planted in the garden.
GRIP Leadership is an independent organisation that exists to train and develop leaders with a special focus on school students and the educational sector. Most known for the 'GRIP Student Leadership Conferences,' the team also presents tailored seminars and presentations for schools. GRIP Leadership programs are fresh, practical, interactive and enjoyed by tens of thousands of students each year.
Our senior students are invited to attend this conference on Thursday, 6th May at the Southern Cross University. The school has covered the cost of this conference, but parents will need to organise transport on the day, to and from the venue. A staff member from the school will be in attendance. A note has gone home about the day, but if you need more information, please call Gaye at school.
