Lego Club

Lego Club is a fun and interactive way to engage students and aid the development of effective communication skills, problem solving skills, turn taking, sharing and waiting skills. Along with using and understanding nonverbal communication skills (eye contact, facial expression and body language) and working collaboratively towards a common goal.

Lego is used in a structured environment where students have clearly defined roles, including an Engineer, a Supplier, a Builder, and a Director. The students need to work together building a Lego creation whilst fulfilling their designated role.

In Term One Lego Club was ran by Hayley (Occupation Therapist) and Sarah (Speech Therapist). Throughout Term Two Lego Club will be run by Sarah (Speech Therapist). Within this group specific communication and/or occupational therapy goals are individually tailored to each student whilst aligning with the current Victorian school curriculum.

Exercise

Regular exercise is vital for our physical and mental health – it is a fact we all know but sometimes (myself included!) we neglect this important facet of life.

Routines and good habits help us – many set goals achieve better results. Some find exercising with others helpful – whilst others find time alone. Team sports are a fantastic way to stay fit and connect socially. Sports help our kids learn important life lessons and skills whilst exercising.

Sometimes, if we neglected our once-good habits or are out of ‘shape’, it is difficult to know where to start. Get Active has some good ideas to help – as well as vouchers coming soon to help families with some of the costs involved in sporting activities.
