From the Principal's desk

Welcome back to Term 2. We have a busy term ahead of us with Mother's Day Stall, Winter Sports, Cross Country, Dental Van and NAPLAN.

In Week 4 our Year 3 and 5s will be completing The National Assessment Program in Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN). The tests will be carried out on Tuesday 11th  May, Wednesday 12th May and Thursday 14th May 2021. NAPLAN tests assess student knowledge and skills in Writing, Reading, Language Conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and Numeracy. The results of the tests provide information for students, parents, teachers and principals which can be used to improve student achievement.

If you have some concerns or require extra information please contact your child's classroom teacher or myself.  For more information about the tests, you can visit the VCAA website at www.vcaa.vic.edu.au or the NAP website at www.nap.edu.au. Children can be withdrawn from NAPLAN if the parent or carer wishes. If, after consultation with the myself, you decide to withdraw your child, you must sign a Student Withdrawal form. These forms are available at the school.

Later in the year you will receive your child’s personal NAPLAN report. The report will describe your child’s particular skills in Reading, Writing, Language Conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and Numeracy. The report will also show how your child performed in relation to national minimum standards. These describe the minimum acceptable standards for students across Australia. I am confident that the information you receive as a result of your child’s participation in the NAPLAN tests will be valuable in helping you to assess your child’s progress in literacy and numeracy.

We will be holding our school tours during Education Week. Current families and prospective families are most welcome.

Also just reminder to parents that students should not be at school before 8.40 am in the morning, when the teacher supervision begins. On arrival, students go to their areas where they normally assemble and wait for their teacher who will then take them inside. We have found that using this approach has led to a far more focused start to the school day. Thank you for your cooperation.
