Immersed in Art

Year 11 Studio Art
On Thursday 26th of July, Miss Martin’s Year 11 Studio Art class took off to see the incredible MOMA exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria. They immersed themselves in the inner and outer worlds of the Surrealists, marvelling at Giorgio de Chirico’s confusing exterior perspectives and Frida Kahlo’s incredible ability to pour her soul out onto the canvas, revealing a raw, (post break-up and savage haircut) self-portrait.
Each student came away with the feeling that you could come face to face with great art, no matter where you are in the world, forming a poignant relationship with a piece you connect with.
Whether it is losing your sense of gravity and becoming weightless as you become lost in the darkness of a Mark Rothko painting or finding a sense of wonder in the curves of Brancusi’s newborn in bronze, art is for everybody.
A great and meaningful day indeed.
