VTAC is upon us!

For our Year 12 students, the waiting is over. VTAC and all the tertiary institutions will have rolled over their websites in readiness for this week, and from yesterday, all the data we have available to us is up-to-date with regard to our current Year 12s, who can now start preparing for their transition from NHS to the next phase of their lives.

Here at school, we will be encouraging ALL Year 12s to engage with the VTAC process, whether they plan to study next year or not, as doing so ensures that they are familiar with the process should they need it later. Changes to legislation mean that the same rules apply to anyone who has graduated in the last two years, as well as the current cohort, so it is important that all students inform themselves this year. This also ensures that anyone who changes their mind, or has overlooked a relevant study pathway up till now, will not miss out.

Please note that the following activities are taking place to support students and their families:

Procedures, timeline, the rollout of information …

  • Monday, August 6
    • VTAC opened
    • Students were reminded there was no need to do anything on this day!
    • The VTAC app is now live, so it can be downloaded and used to conduct up-to-date course research.
  • Tuesday, August 7
    • All Year 12s will have attended a VTAC assembly in Period 3 to guide them through the features of the VTAC site and ensure they are able to start their registration and applications.
  • Wednesday, August 8
    • VCAA website/app should be ready for students to download and register for their VCE/ATAR results service.
    • This is a second procedure that sits beside VTAC.
    • We will be encouraging students to complete these two registrations at the same time.
  • Thursday, August 9
    • PARENT INFO night for VTAC – 6.30pm.
    • Students do not need to attend this session – it is designed to give parents insight into how they can support their young people. We recommend that parents download both the parent AND the student presentations AFTER THURSDAY, so they have the full set of information.
  • Between now and the end of term…
    • We will be encouraging ALL Year 12 students to REGISTER and log one preference in the VTAC system.
    • They do not have to formalise this by actually paying.
    • However, going through this process does two things – qualifies them for the cheapest rate if they decide to proceed, AND ensures they know how the system works in case they need it in the future.

Paperwork and information students will need before they begin

Students need to have the following information at their fingertips before they begin:

  • VCAA number (this is available from YLPLs, not the Careers office).
  • Knowledge of what their parents’ highest qualifications are.
  • Passport and/or visa paperwork if an international student or residency that has a visa attached to it (eg humanitarian, refugee, varying degrees of residency permission).

How to access support

At 7pm on Wednesday 15 August, VTAC will run a free evening webinar for students and parents covering all aspects of the application process. More information and registration is available at https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/applying-for-tertiary-study-in-victoria-free-vtac-webinar-tickets-48724413031

  • Your child will also bring home a VTAC publication called “The VTAC Guide – for Year 11 and 12 students”.
  • Speak to your child’s tutor
  • Go to Open Days and talk to the unis directly (see Open Day calendar)
  • Kylie Witt is holding two workshops during the next few Connect sessions as part of the “Work, Rest, Play” series.
  • Book appointments with Kylie Witt for individualised help if necessary.

This  two-day short course is an immersive experience, providing an insight into the audition process and a hands on experience of VCA Dance. This practical two-day workshop is designed to assist students with how best to prepare for a tertiary dance school audition.

Focusing primarily, but not exclusively, on VCA Dance, it will also provide an insight into what a tertiary dance school is looking for in a potential student through the audition process. Led by VCA Dance leaders, the workshop is held over two days in order to provide potential for development through feedback.

Prior dance experience required, equivalent to Cecchetti / RAD Intermediate, or VCE level.
