Unit 1 Art -  11 Top Arts Excursion

On Tuesday the 10th of May, Year 11, unit 1 Art students enjoyed an excursion to the “Ian Potter Centre” NGV at Federation Square.  This is an annual exhibition showcasing the exceptional work of students who have completed Art or Studio Art as part of the VCE certificate. Works this year were diverse and included a range of media made up of drawing, photography, sculpture, film and digital and mixed media.

We started the excursion, joining three other schools in a lecture and discussion group. This was run by an NGV curator with insightful tips, questions and thinking points. This was followed by a folio viewing of unit ¾ visual diaries. This showed the exhibiting students' thinking process, annotations and material trials whilst they were working on their ideas.  After a quick snack in the sun on the steps of Fed square, we viewed the gallery exhibition which was filled with amazing work from the 2021 selected Victorian artists.  It was a very enjoyable day with lots of tips for success in VCE visual art.

I loved seeing the collection of students' ideas on the different themes they chose to work on for their VCE folios.  It was great to go to a gallery. Indie

I was inspired by the creativity that the individual students showed in Top Arts 2021. I really enjoyed the exhibition. Sienna G

The lecture by the NGV curator and the exhibition reminded me to get excited and be passionate about my own work within art.  Cathy

I thought the lecture on folio ideas, criteria and requirements to get into Top Arts was really insightful and the overall exhibition was well laid out and informative.  The art was inspiring.  It was great to see the relief printing as that's what we have just been working on.  Taegan

I thought the exhibition at the NGV was very helpful.  It was really good to see how other students have used different processes and techniques and the folio viewing was really worthwhile. Sarah

The variety of the different artworks from such a range of secondary schools all over Victoria was excellent. Sienna M
