Assistant Principal Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

NAPLAN 2022

This year NAPLAN will take place On Tuesday May 10th, Friday May 14th, Monday May 17th and Tuesday May 18th. NAPLAN is an annual assessment for all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. It tests the types of skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life. The tests cover skills in reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy. This year students will undertake the tests online.

NAPLAN results will be provided to schools from August onwards. The same report format is used for every student in Australia. We will notify you when the reports are being sent home. If your child sits the tests and you do not receive a report, please contact us. Individual student results are strictly confidential.

NAPLAN Online is a tailored test that adapts to student responses, presenting students with questions that may be more or less difficult – resulting in better assessment and more precise results.

NAPLAN is a point-in-time assessment that allows parents and carers to see how their child is progressing in literacy and numeracy against the national standard and compared with their peers throughout Australia. At the classroom level, NAPLAN provides additional information to support teachers’ professional judgement about student progress.

NAPLAN tests are constructed to give students an opportunity to demonstrate skills they have learnt over time through the school curriculum, and NAPLAN test days should be treated as just another routine event on the school calendar. The best way you can help your child prepare for NAPLAN is to reassure them that NAPLAN tests are just one part of their school program, and to advise them to simply do the best they can on the day.

Parents or carers may withdraw their child from the tests to address issues such as anxiety, religious beliefs and philosophical objections to testing. If you wish to withdraw your child please ensure that you discuss this with the school and complete the withdrawal document prior to testing.

Kind regards

Jennifer O’Connor

Assistant Principal.
