Principal's Message

Nurture.  Innovate.  Celebrate.

Dear Students, Parents, Carers and Families,

Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week runs from the 27th of May to the 3rd of June each year. It is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

The National Reconciliation Week 2022 theme, “Be Brave. Make Change.” Is a challenge to all Australians – individuals, families, communities, organisations and government – to Be Brave and tackle the unfinished business of reconciliation so we can Make Change for the benefit of all Australians.

Change begins with brave actions in our daily lives – where we live, work, play, and socialise. The following link contains some important actions that we can each take to help make positive change: https://nrw.reconciliation.org.au/2022-actions-to-make-change/

At Maramba Primary School, each class has been learning about the purpose, history and importance of Reconciliation Week. Each student is busily working towards creating their own piece of writing which represents their understanding of the importance of reconciliation. These will be collected together to create our shared Maramba Reconciliation Book. Throughout the week, our Cultural Leaders will also be running lunchtime sessions in the library at recess focused around engaging in the theme Be Brave. Make Change.

STUDENT LEADERSHIP BADGE PRESENTATION

Our long-awaited special student leadership assembly was held last Friday the 20th May in our new gymnasium.  It was a joyful experience for our school community as for the first time this year our doors were allowed open, and many parents and carers were in attendance with us all.

A highlight of the event was when past school leaders Charli and Pamod, now in year 10, spoke to the students, teachers and staff about their experiences as young School Captains whilst they were students at Maramba in 2018.  It was very interesting to hear how the opportunities they were given in their leadership roles helped them to develop their self-esteem, confidence and social skills -especially when communicating with others, problem solving and thinking critically and creatively.

Our 2022 student leaders received their leadership badges as they joined Mr. Wallace and Ms Morwood in front of the school community.  These young students are passionate about caring for the environment, assisting younger students in the playground, growing our school culture through students led events and above all upholding the school values of Respect, Responsibility, Relationships and Resilience.  As a school, we congratulate all students who have chosen to serve our school as student leaders, we are excited to see what they will achieve throughout the year.

COMMUNITY FUNDRAISER SUCCESS!

It was an exceptionally proud moment for all of our Maramba community on election day Saturday to see how many families and staff supported the fundraiser by being involved. The level of support, care and commitment for each other is just one of the many reasons that makes our Maramba community so amazing!

A significant achievement of our Friends of Maramba (FOM) volunteers who set everything in motion to seize the moment of election day polling at Maramba and collaborate with our Year 5/6 families and students to run a BBQ and Car Wash Fundraiser at our school. Everyone worked really hard as a team so all proceeds could go towards the Year 5/6 Urban Camp this year in Term 3.

Throughout the day, over 30kgs of sausages were BBQ, cold drinks sold and more than 100 cars washed sparkling clean. As it was Election Day and our school was a polling station made this the perfect opportunity for our community to vote, enjoy a family sausage sizzle and drive away in a sparkling clean car.

The ultimate aim of the fundraiser was to help reduce the cost to families so that ALL students can attend the Y5/6 camp, especially our Year 6s to have an amazing final year camp together, but also to continue to strengthen our community relationships.

Amazing community effort to all involved and those who supported us by buying a sausage or having their car washed!

Take care and stay safe!

DISTRICT CROSS COUNTRY

On Tuesday 24th May, forty-two students from Maramba had the opportunity to participate in district cross country at Sweeny Reserve in Berwick.  They competed against students in Year 3 to 6 from different schools. The year 3 and 4 students had to run 2 kilometre and the year 5and 6's ran 3 kilometres. Three students from Maramba have qualified to regional are Kiara, Luka and Lucas.  Everyone from Maramba showed excellent resilience and kept going even though it was quiet challenging. The schools that Maramba versed were Timbarra, Marry Mackillop, St Michaels and St. Margaret’s.  Overall everyone did an amazing job and showed all the school values. Emma K, Kiara and Josh
