STUDENTS WITH MEDICAL CONDITIONS

Parents are reminded to advise the school of any change in diagnosis and treatment of their child’s medical conditions immediately.

The school is prohibited from administering any over the counter medication, including panadol and antihistamines.  If you would like your child to have access to these, or any other medications, you must have provided it, with your child's name and form, to the First Aid Attendant.

STUDENT INSURANCE

Parents are reminded that Department of Education and Training (DET) and Frankston High School do not provide personal accident insurance for students.  Parents and guardians are responsible for the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including transport costs.

Students’ accident insurance policies are available from the private insurance market. These cover a range of medical expenses not covered by Medicare. They can be obtained by parents for individual students.

Parents of students at Frankston High School are reminded that Frankston High School does not have a whole school policy.

BELONGINGS AT SCHOOL

Student Accident Insurance, Ambulance Cover Arrangements And Private Property Brought To School

Parents/carers are reminded that the Department of Education and Training (DET) does not provide personal accident or ambulance cover for students.  Parents/carers of students who do not have private health insurance or ambulance cover are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students.

Private property bought to the college by students, staff or visitors is not insured and the DET is not responsible for any loss or damage.  This can include mobile phones, calculators, sporting equipment and cars parked on school premises.

It is recommended that parents and carers consider insurance policies that can be purchased from commercial insurers.

PRIVACY REMINDER

Our school collects, uses, discloses and stores student and parent personal information for standard school functions or where permitted by law, as stated in the Schools’ Privacy Policy.

Please take time to remind yourself of the school’s collection statement, found on our website http://www.fhs.vic.edu.au/school-documentation-and-policies/

For more information about privacy, refer to: Schools’ Privacy Policy — information for parents

MOBILE PHONE POLICY

In accordance with the Department of Education and Training (DET) requirements, Frankston High School has developed a Mobile Phone Policy which is attached below.  To uphold this policy the following guidelines are a summary of the school’s expectations in 2021 and onwards across both campuses of our school:

  • “mobile phone” refers to mobile phones smartwatches and any device that may connect to or have a similar functionality to a mobile phone such as smart watches.  Please note, that since earphones are commonly connected to mobile phones they will not be allowed during the school day.
  • Students who bring mobiles phones (and earphones) to school must have them switched off and securely stored in their lockers throughout the school day, unless they are exempt from this rule due to individual circumstances or the teacher has given express permission for use for educational purposes.
  • The school day starts when the student has entered the school, therefore students once at school are not to be using phones or earphones whilst waiting for their first lesson or during any breaks regardless of the time of day.
  • Parents are not to contact their children during the school day on their mobile devices.  Should they wish to speak with their children they can ring the General Office and the student will be able to speak to them via a school phone.

Students who use their personal mobile phones inappropriately at Frankston High School will be issued with consequences.  The hierarchy of consequences is attached below.

HATS COMPULSORY DURING SPORT ED AND PE

From the beginning of the 2022 school year, students must wear navy blue hats without any identifying logos for Sport education and PE.  Such hats can also be worn to and from school as part of the uniform if the student chooses to.

If a student attends PE without a plain navy hat/navy school hat with logo then they will be supplied with a hat for that lesson.  If a student is wearing a non uniform hat it will confiscated and other consequences may apply.

STUDENT SUPERVISION BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL

Please be aware that teachers are on duty in the grounds on the:

7-10 Campus: from 8.30am until 3.40pm.

Senior Campus: from 8.00am until 3.40pm.

It is advisable for students to arrive at school after supervision begins unless they have:

  • scheduled class time
  • a planned activity (eg semper squad)

Please note that some buses leave after the conclusion of yard duty.  Students are expected to behave in a responsible manner when in school uniform, before and after school.  The public often contact Frankston High School to comment on the excellent behaviour of students in public areas.

SCHOOL DROP OFF AND PICK UP

As we are all aware, we have very limited parking in the Frankston High School grounds for parents picking up their children at the end of the school day.  If you organise to meet your children in the drop off zone and they are not waiting for you when you arrive, please do not block the passage of cars trying to get through.  If all of the unofficial spaces to the sides of the drop off zone are occupied when you arrive, please continue through the centre of the drop off zone, turn left out of the school into Foot Street, proceed down to the roundabout at Baileyana Street and then do a loop back up and around the Towerhill Road roundabout and back into the drop off zone.

Our preference has always been for parents to park in one of the side streets surrounding the school and wait for children to come to you.  Thank you very much to the many parents who already do this.

It is much safer for students to be dropped off to school at the gate of Baileyana Street and then for them to walk across the oval.

Also, a reminder, face masks are mandatory on public transport.

We thank you for your cooperation.

CROSSING THE ROAD

REMINDER TO BUS TRAVELLERS

All students who travel to and from school via the public buses are reminded to only use the black and white ‘zebra crossings’ on Towerhill Road and Foot Street to get to and from bus stops, before and after school.

Traffic is extremely congested on the streets before and after school.  It is not safe for students to cross the roads anywhere but the zebra crossings at any time, but especially before and after school.  Parents are asked to discuss with their children, the importance of this matter.
