Around Our School

Mathisphere Competition

On Tuesday 12 October 2021 over 100 students from Frankston High School participated in a Virtual Games Day funded by the Department of Education and Training (DET) and hosted by the Mathematical Association of Victoria (MAV).  Frankston High School was just one of many schools who entered the Mathisphere to battle it out, with our contribution of 27 teams being the largest cohort from any school.  It really was great to see so many students highly engaged and motivated to participate in such an event.

The day was a buzz of excitement as students worked collaboratively in teams of 3-4 to attempt team puzzles, compete in Maths games and perform problem solving tasks.  It was really impressive to see every student’s willingness to work collaboratively and attempt everything that was thrown their way.  The top three teams from Frankston High School are listed below.

1st - Team Turing

  • Kaizen Lourens
  • Timothy Porter
  • Sophie Alexander
  • Dash Darmon

2nd - Team Bernoulli

  • Violet Costantino
  • Archie Sage
  • Ryan Maxwell
  • Daniel Wu

3rd - Team Germain

  • Leona Joys
  • Eliza Patston
  • Emilie Piquet

A huge thank you to everyone who assisted in making this possible, especially our tutors for managing to organise so many teams to participate in a very short time frame.  It was a brilliant day, and one which the students seemed to thoroughly enjoy.
