Principal News

Dear Sacred Heart School Community

Over the holidays, the sense of excitement, about return to school was very evident among families and their children I meet  and observed.

These past four school days have confirmed that observation with a palpable sense of joy, excitement and couched expectation of a more "normal year" within our very own Sacred Heart School Community. The happiness on parents faces, and the excited noise of the school yard at recess and lunch and studious hum of our students working with their peers bodes well for a better year.

Year Prep Class of 2022

Our 2022 Year Prep class commenced their school year on Monday, and already have shown that they are going to be another fantastic group of students within our community. Smiling faces, intent listening and a want to follow their teachers Amanda and Giulia's instructions have been evident from day one. It's going to be another great year in Year Prep.

Welcome To Sacred Heart School

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome some new students who have joined our school for 2022. We so happy to welcome brothers Jonathon (Year Three) and Jeremy (Year One) and Izaac (Year Four). We so happy to welcome these three great students to our school.

Covid Protocols

Again thank you for adhering to our protocols. Parents and guardians are free to enter the school yard but please remember to social distance. We ask that you limit business inside the school building to urgent matters and if they can be dealt with over the phone, that they are. Students will continue to work in hubs and there will be a continued vigilance on consistent hygiene practices with washing of hands. We ask that our students in Year Three to Year Six wear a face mask (a number of students in Year One and Year Two) have been wearing a face mask and we are very supportive of this decision. All families were issued a packet of five Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) on Monday for each of their children and we ask that all students are tested twice a week. Please inform the school of a positive test.

Skoolbag App

Communication is always a very important instrument in any school, but has particular importance at the moment with the ever changing Covid situation and corresponding adaptions to procedures that effect you and your children. Our weekly newsletter and ever more frequent special bulletins can be accessed very readily on the Skoolbag App. Instructions for downloading the App can be obtained from the school Office.

Sacramental Dates

Last year Covid played havoc with our school program of receiving the Sacraments. Hence we have a very busy start  to the year to ensure our students have received the relevant Sacraments

Year Four Sacrament of First Reconciliation: Thursday 24th February 6.30pm

Year Four and Year Five Sacrament of First Eucharist: Sunday 3rd March 2.00pm

Year Five and Year Six Confirmation: Friday 13th May 7.00pm

Year Three Sacrament of First Reconciliation: Fourth Term

Icy Poles

The selling of Icy Poles will commence at lunchtime tomorrow.Icy poles can be bought for $1.00 and proceeds raised help our school purchase resources for our students. Thank you to Jodi our Parents and Friend's Committee President for organising this fundraiser.

In next week's newsletter, we will provide details of our first Parents and Friend's Committee meeting for the year.

Cricket

Sunny, father of Veer in Year Three, is generously offering his services to run some cricket coaching after school for interested students. Sunny is  passionate about his cricket and would love to give about twelve students (boys and girls in Year Three to Year Five) the opportunity to also gain a passion for cricket. Sessions starting later this term will be on a Tuesday night straight after school and will run for an hour. If you are interested email me or further information. Sunny has his working with Children Check.

School Uniform

Could I remind everyone, that our students are expected to wear black shoes each school day except on the day of physical education. A number of students have returned to school this year wearing their runners. Could I also ask both for safety and hygiene that students with long hair have in tied up and that if a ribbon or hair tie is being used that it be in our school uniform colours of green or gold.

School Board

Our School Advisory Board meets eight times a year or twice a term. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month. Our previously scheduled meeting for next Tuesday 8th February has been cancelled due to our relatively later start to the year and the short period between school commencement and the meeting. As a result, the Board will meet seven times this year which is within the meeting frequency regulations.

Joel

The big news at the recently completed Australian Tennis Open wasn't the controversy over Novak's non compliance with vaccination requirements, Rafa's incredible victory or even the antics of the "Special Ks". The big news was the appearance of our very own former student (Year Six last year) Joel, who set the scene with his tossing of the coin before the match. Many of you will be familiar with Joel's very own tennis exploits. Who knows: Joel himself could be on centre court playing in the years to come. Congratulations Joel.

Please take care.

Yours sincerely
