The Year 2021

The year comes to a close it is important to be grateful for all that has taken place. The good times are naturally celebrated and spoken about with enthusiasm. There has no doubt been difficult and challenging times, which we should not shy away from. We should highlight these moments and take away the positives and in particular the learnings provided by these difficult and challenging times.

Through difficulty and struggle we learn more about ourselves than in the good and easy times. Pushing through challenges should be celebrated as this causes us to go outside of our comfort zone. If you have a young man who has been through this journey this year, I encourage you to flesh it out with them and highlight the moments of resilience. If you have a young man at home who has very much stayed in his lane without venturing across the dotted white line, I also encourage you to think of ways in 2022 where we can challenge this.

Whether it is signing up to a co-curricular activity you have previously never done, going to homework club, asking that teacher for extra help or speaking up within your friendship group. As we reflect on the year 2021, we reflect on its entirety and what goals and ambitions will inspire us and lead us into 2022.

Peer Support Leaders

I congratulate the Year 9 boys who have been selected by their Pastoral Care teacher to become a peer support leader within their pastoral care group for 2022. Personally, I see the role of peer support leader as the most significant leadership position we hold at our College. It is the daily leadership opportunities this role provides. The treatment and support offered in every interaction of every morning which ultimately has a huge impact and for some boys may be the very difference they need.

As boys commence their journey as the leaders of the College for the next three years this role provides a lived reality of what it means to belong to our great College. I look forward to announcing these leaders later this week.

Christmas Wishes

As our young men leave our campus for the last time in 2021 and begin their summer break, I take this opportunity to wish all in our community an enjoyable and blessed Christmas and New Year. Christmas is a time to celebrate with family and friends and a time to recharge and give thanks. I also recognise that for some families it is a challenging time, particularly for those who have lost loved ones this year. I ask that we all keep these families in our thoughts and prayers.

We as a community look forward to the boys return in 2022 and working side by side with them to maximise the amazing learning experiences that await them.
