Student Wellbeing

I hope that the year has started well…

As we return to onsite learning we are reminded of how important routine and structure is for everyone.

Getting organised the night before ready for the new day, getting up and having the same routine in the morning helps to set up the day for everyone.

For our new Year 7 students this is particularly important as it may mean getting used to catching a bus or trying to adjust to the differences between secondary school and primary school.

If you have any concerns about any of this please make contact with your child’s homeroom/mentor teacher so we can address the issues as soon as they arise.

Remember, we are all in this together.

Uniform Reminders

As I write this, we are heading towards photo day on Friday 18th February and I have sent many messages over the course of this week reminding all of the students about the expectations in terms of photos. However, what I have said to the community is that these expectations are not different to any other day at school.

We have had some challenges in the first couple of weeks with hangovers from the holidays, which have included:

  • Students still having false eyelashes and false nails
  • Hair colours that do not align with the uniform policy
  • The wearing of short socks
  • Some students have grown and their dresses are now a little shorter than 2021

We thank families who have worked hard to have all of the uniform items necessary for their child and we encourage any family who may need support with uniform to please make contact with either myself or the Year Level Leader so we can support you in any way that is necessary.

As we head towards term 2 we will start to include information regarding the winter uniform, which is worn during terms 2 and 3.

Investiture Assembly

Wednesday 23 February is calendared as the day where we acknowledge all those students who have put their hand up for a Leadership position in 2022.

Amazingly, for the Student Representative Leaders role at Year 7 we had 42 students who applied for the position.

At the assembly all of the student leaders will receive their badge from Mr Pisani and make a pledge that in their role they will live up to the expectations of being a leader at the College.

We look forward acknowledging all of the leaders at the school in the next edition of the Marian News..

Child Protection Information

During the Staff Professional Learning Days at the beginning of the year, the staff were introduced to the new Child Safety Standards The original 7 standards have expanded to 11 standards and are designed to ensure the safety of all children in our care.

We will continue to work with our staff to ensure that they are aware of the changes before July when they become part of the way we operate moving forward.

Child Protection Parent Committee

Part of the process of child protection also includes having parent voice.  We invite any parents who are interested in joining a committee and having input into our Child Safety processes please contact me either via SEQTA messages or phone at the school.

Wellbeing Message

Could we encourage all of our students and families to remember to take some time to ensure that they are sleeping and getting enough rest at night to rejuvenate and take on the next day.

This is important for all of our members of the community but particularly for our senior students who often spend long nights studying and burning the candle at both ends.  Over time, lack of sleep has an impact on how we function during the day.

Take Care and Look out for each other.
