Learning and Teaching

Period 5 Maths Class and VCE Extra Classes/Tutorials

At Marian College, we have a strong focus on ensuring that each student makes progress and experiences success. Every student should be able to make at least one-year’s progress in learning for every year at school. In many cases, we are able to report confidently that our students far exceed this goal. To support student progress, we pleased to be able to offer a range of extra classes and tutorials in 2022.

These include:

  • Year 7 – 12 Period 5 Maths Class - every Thursday 3.05 - 4.15 pm (or 4.30 pm for Unit 3/4 Maths Methods) in the Louise Cleary Year 9/10 Building (downstairs). A number of Maths teachers will be on hand to teach content and skills, provide tutorial support or revision, including exam practice, as well as extension work. All year levels are welcome and encouraged to attend.
  • VCE Period 4 Wednesday English and Maths Tutorial Support  VCE English and Maths Teachers are timetabled to take these sessions. The English sessions are most particularly for Year 12 students and Maths is for all Units 1 - 4 Mathematics courses. If students do not have a scheduled SAC at this time, they are encouraged to access these sessions.  These take place in the classrooms downstairs in the Ngali Building.
  • VCE Period 4 Wednesday Visual Arts and Technology Folio and Exam Preparation – one of our VCE teachers will be on hand for students in the Design Warehouse every Wednesday, Period 4. Students will benefit from extra time to work on folios and complete exam practice questions.
  • In addition, there is a wide range of other extra classes/tutorials/revision sessions that teachers are running at lunchtime and after school for VCE students. The full schedule is available on the SEQTA Engage and Learn Welcome Pages and has been sent to families via Operoo. It may be updated throughout the year.

Please encourage students to take advantage of these extra opportunities that our teachers are providing for students.

Parent Engagement in Learning through SEQTA

In the last edition of Marian News, I wrote about the importance of parent engagement in student learning and the potential that it has to positively impact on a student’s learning progress. This week, on Wednesday 23 February at 6.00 pm (rescheduled from Monday 21 February), we are running a SEQTA Engage Parent Workshop. Details have been sent to all families via Operoo.

SEQTA is our Learning Management System with portals for parents, students and teachers. The parent portal is called SEQTA Engage and we would like to re-iterate the importance of accessing this portal regularly. This is where parents can see the lessons studied, home learning tasks set, student goals, assessment tasks, feedback, results and semester reports.

It is also an essential communication tool with the Welcome Page featuring important updates and links to the latest edition of Marian News and other important information. Both SEQTA Direqt Message and Operoo are used for important communication and updates. Furthermore, letters notifying of unsatisfactory assessment submissions, required re-sits, behavioural detentions and attendance warning letters are sent via SEQTA Messages.

If you require support with accessing and using SEQTA or Operoo, please contact the College.
