Reading in the Resource Centre

This year all Year 7 and Year 8 students are taking part in the Reading Program.  Students will have a regular lesson in the Resource Centre and learn about the skills of reading such as summarizing and finding interesting words in their book.  Students are expected to read two novels each term and will log their reading in a program called Beanstack.  Beanstack is a fun way to keep track of reading with students gaining digital badges when they read for 60 minutes in the week.  The Resource Centre staff are looking forward to helping all Year 7 and 8 students learn to love reading.

Resource Centre news

This year the Resource Centre welcomes a new staff member - Ian Francis.  Ian is our new Teacher Librarian and will be working in the Learning Diversity area as well as the Resource Centre.  He comes to us with a wealth of experience in many different settings, including time working in the Northern Territory in Katherine and the Tiwi Islands.  We are so lucky to have Ian with us and look forward to unique contribution to the Resource Centre.

Library Lovers week in the Resource Centre

This week we celebrated Valentine’s Day with a whole week of activity. Students were asked to write us what they loved about their library on little coloured love hearts. Students comments tell us a lot about the Resource Centre and our users. They wrote they loved the quiet in the space, the way it is decorated with dragons, the great range of books available for borrowing and of course the wonderful staff who can always help them. This is the first of many activities we are planning to celebrate books and reading throughout the term.
