Deputy Principal - Teaching and Learning
Welcome to Term 4. We have started devising our plans for the return of more students to the College, and how the learning programs will be completed during Term 4. To support the development of the necessary learning skills, we have reviewed the Calendar of events. Outlined below are important details about Term 4.
Exams
We have made alterations to the examinations to maximise face to face learning, as well as ensuring that Year 11 students have had adequate examination experiences.
The following will occur:
Year 7-9
- The 7-9 examinations schedule for 25th and 26th of October will not occur. Instead, these will be normal classes – remote or face to face depending on the schedule.
- Students will undertake ACER testing in PATR (Reading) and PATM (Mathematics) during English and Mathematics classes during the first week of STEP-UP (these assessments are done online).
- The results of these assessments will be provided to all parents, offering a snapshot of academic progression, as results can be compared to the prior completion of these tasks.
Year 10
- There will be three examinations scheduled for Year 10, and they will be schedule during normal school days in Week 6 of term (8-12 November)
- Exams will be held for Mathematics, English and Physical Education
- Year 10s will be on campus each day of the exam week (4 periods of classes plus 1 exam Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) of the week
Year 11
- All VCE and VCE VET Unit 1 and 2 subjects will have an exam as per the provided timetable. Year 11 students can study off campus when not in an exam.
STEP-UP
2021 marks the first year in which the College is going to shift all classes up to their 2022 classes. Following our week of exams for Years 10 and 11, Friday 12 November will be a Student Free Day. This day will be when teachers work together to get their programs and resources ready. Monday 15 November is the Report Writing Day and is also a student free day.
On Tuesday 16 November, we will begin our STEP-UP program. All year levels will move into their timetabled classes for their 2022 Year Level. Year 8 to 12 classes will be held and where possible, the 2022 teacher will be providing these lessons.
The final dates for Year 12 2022 will be Friday 26 November. Year 11 2022 will conclude classes on Tuesday 30 November. Years 8-10 2022 will finish classes on Friday 3 December.
This program is exciting as it will enable us to get students focused on their future learning, enabling as smooth and engaged transition to the next year level.
Student Resources – Booklists for 2022
To assist parents with the return to school requirements, individual student booklists for textbooks will not be required for Year 7 through to Year 10 students for 2022. Instead, a year level levy will be applied to the school fees for these resources and should result in a reduced overall cost to parents. In addition, a further change to prior years is that the resources will all be digital and available to students via an online platform. Our supplier of resources from 2022 is Campion. The Campion Bookshelf integrates with the SEQTA Learning Management System making it very easy for students to access their learning materials at school and at home.
Students will be provided with instructions on how to access their online resources during the College STEP-UP program.
For all VCE students, booklists for textbooks will remain as normal and will be distributed shortly to ensure their resources are available for them to use at Step Up.
Families will still be required to purchase stationery for their children. A list for each year level will be provided to families. These items will be listed, and families will be free to purpose these items from whichever supplier that they choose.
I hope this information provides clarity for some of the key learning requirements for the remainder of Term 4.
