Science Talent Search 2021

The annual Science Talent Search is an event promoted by the Science Teachers Association of Victoria to stimulate an ongoing interest in the study of sciences by:

  • encouraging independent self-motivated project work amongst students of science;
  • giving students the opportunity to communicate their achievements to a wider audience;
  • according recognition of effort and achievement in a scientific enterprise and,
  • promoting the direct involvement of the students in the processes of science and its communication.

In Semester 1, students from Year 7, 8 and 9 participated in the 70th Science Talent Search.  Students developed scientific posters or creative writing pieces based around the theme ‘Food: Different by design’ or carried out experimental research on topics of interest.

Following assessment, nineteen entries were sent for formal judging in the competition.  Of these entries:

  • 2 Doncaster SC students won major bursaries,
  • 5 won minor bursaries,
  • 8 were awarded certificates of distinction and,
  • 3 won certificates of merit.

THIS IS A FANTASTIC ACHIEVEMENT!

Certificates and bursaries will be sent to the school and distributed to students in November.

I would like to congratulate the following students on their achievements:

Who Are Our Heroes?

A remote learning activity was extended to Year 7 students undertaking Food Technology this semester. After many weeks learning about safety and hygiene practices in the kitchen, students were asked to think about someone who inspires them - their hero - and get creative in designing a dish which represents that person in an art form.

Students followed the design process which they have also been practicing from home. We had a range of design submissions and even a few who followed the process right through to producing their design during the holiday break.

Pascale B. (7G) is inspired by Zendaya

Well done to 7F students: Eden, Chloe and Sienna for their creative recipe ideas.
