Arts Faculty News
Welcome to Term 2. It is wonderful to see so many production rehearsals, music ensembles, and art creations underway for 2023. Term 2 is busy with Arts events and opportunities to see art in action at Girton Grammar School.
Already in week one, our Junior and Senior musicians have supported the ANZAC Day Assembly and the Girton 30th Anniversary Assembly, which took place last Friday 28th April 2023. The Junior School Choir and Girton String Orchestra performed “Colours of the Wind” and the combined Senior School Choir, Girton String Orchestra, and Girton Jazz Band performed “Holy Grail”. It was a joyous celebration, and it was great to have music to represent Girton’s commitment to the Arts. My thanks to the teachers who helped to make these events happen.
The big event at the end of term will be the Senior School Production of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, directed by Mrs Mandy Ellison. Students have been rehearsing throughout Term 1 and the school holidays, and marketing for the show is well underway. Information regarding ticket purchases for Romeo and Juliet will be communicated in the coming weeks.
Finally, the Visual Art Department continues to bring us the Lectures at Lunchtime. Last Wednesday, 3rd May 2023, in the Black Box, we had the opportunity to hear from Mr Anton Hasell, a regional Victorian sculptor. Mr Hasell’s work combines art forms as he explores visual and auditory elements. He is best known for the creation of the Federation Bells Carillon in Melbourne.
The Lectures at Lunchtime have been very well-received, thought-provoking and engaging. Stay tuned for the next round of dates and guest speakers.
