Year 8 Spark Program News

In the last two weeks of Term 1, the Year 8 Spark students visited classes in the Junior School to run a series of activities about bullying and self-esteem. As part of the 8 Spark unit on Respectful Relationships, the students worked hard to research, plan and develop a 30-minute lesson that included engaging and age-appropriate activities for the younger students (Prep to Grade 3).

These lessons included learning to:

  • identify bullying behaviour,
  • understand why people bully others, and
  • develop protective behaviours to manage or prevent bullying.

It was wonderful to see the Year 8s connect with the younger students and to feel a sense of responsibility and value in their learning. Judging by the many smiling faces, avid conversations, game play, and general buzz in the room it was a highly successful initiative and one that we hope to repeat again in the future.
