Curriculum

Well, what a week it’s been for Foundation. This week students experienced their first excursion where they headed off to Healesville Sanctuary to continue their ‘Mission To The Wild’. It was quite a wet day but such a fun one, learning about lots of different Australian animals and of course, riding on the bus. To top the week off students had their very first school Cross Country! Congratulations to all participants, you all showed such bravery and perseverance. A week of lots of firsts, but such a special week to be in Foundation.

In Maths students set up their very own shop front in teams to sell materials to make a card. They made signs, priced materials and sold their products. We saw a lot of teamwork and collaboration as their stores came to life. Each student then had an opportunity to buy what they needed from their shop to make a special card.

In Writing, students have been continuing to learn about Connie Connective and how we use words like ‘because’ to persuade. Students wrote sentences about their favourite animal they saw at the zoo and had to use convincing language to explain why it was their favourite.

In Reading, Foundation students made lots of text to self connections when talking and discussing about their Grandparents. We spoke about how different families have different names for their grandparents and spoke about why they are special to us. We have our Grandparents Day next Tuesday the 16th at 12:30. We can’t wait to see you there!

Next week we have the Scholastic Book Fair coming to school. Each class will get an opportunity to browse next Thursday the 18th where they are able to browse. Families are then welcome to purchase books before and after school for the remainder of the week. In celebration of Education week, Mount Pleasant Road will be holding an Open Afternoon on Monday 22nd of May, from 3:30-4:30. This is an opportunity for you and your family to come into the classroom with your child and celebrate their work and achievements.

Enjoy a restful weekend!
