Inquiry Centre

Curriculum
What a brilliant week of learning we have had in the Inquiry Centre! The 1/2 Teachers have been so impressed with the way that students are challenging themselves by trying new things in all of our learning tasks.
During Literacy this week, students have been learning how to use Connie Connectives to add more detail to our sentences. You might like to ask your child if they can use and, because, so or although in a sentence! Thank you so much to families that have been reading each night with their students. You may notice your child is bringing home a new level of readers as teachers are completing some reading assessments in class over the next few weeks. Please send a Sentral message to your classroom teacher if you are noticing that your child does not have take home readers each night.
In Writing, we have been continuing our focus on persuasive writing, this week thinking about people that we think are ‘superheroes’ in our lives. Students have been working hard to create three reasons explaining why someone special to them is super special. You might like to ask your child who their ‘superhero’ is as they will bring home their published writing today.
Mathematics saw us focusing on all things to do with money. We have been practising ordering our coins from smallest value to largest value, as well as building our strategies to count collections of money. It was pleasing to see students connect their understanding of place value with money and renaming 100 cents as $1. If you are visiting the shops with your child, I wonder what they will be able to tell you about the prices or money that you see?
In PE over the last few weeks, students have been measuring and recording the distance their class has run for their Cross Country practice. It is astounding how far each grade has travelled! We are so proud and can not wait to celebrate students’ perseverance and participation in our whole school cross county today.
Our Guided Inquiry rotations are well underway with students visiting their second classroom, learning about the different ways that we can be sustainable. Students are well on their way to becoming experts about water pollution, how to sort rubbish, how we can protect native animals, growing seeds or even different types of energy. Our focus this week in Wellbeing has been positive coping strategies. Students have had opportunities to reflect on how we feel at different times of the day, what zone we might be in during learning time and using some strategies to calm us down or cheer us up, depending on what zone we are in.
Wishing all family units a very happy Special Persons Day this weekend,
Mrs Hirvonen, Mr Jenkins, Mrs Martin, Miss Molloy, Mrs Danes, Mrs Moroney & Mrs Seadon

Reminders
- 1/2SM - Hosting Assembly
- Please check that your child has their school jacket labelled as we head into winter. If you can not locate your child's clothing at home, have a look and see if it is in lost property
- It is really important that you ensure the yellow reading logs are brought back to school each day with a little bit of a reflection about what your child has read. This can be written by you or your child.
- Please ensure all students have headphones at school for activities that use the iPads. We only have a small collection of spares.
- Students are welcome to bring some money on Fridays for Pleasant Snacks.
- Please pack lunch and snacks for your child. Some students are finding they are eating all their food in the first break and have nothing left at recess. Even if they have a lunch order.
- Assembly is held on Monday’s and students are welcome to bring some money for the cake raffle.
- Breakfast Club is open on Wednesday mornings from 8:25 - 8:45. If students would like some toast, a donation of any coin is encouraged.
