Kitchen Garden

Session 5 - 3/4L

First day of term 2 for students and they were straight into the garden. The tomatoes are at their season end so we picked the last of the red tomatoes and also the green ones and began chopping down the plants.

It was a good opportunity to liquid fertilise everything with Seasol today after almost 3 weeks out of the garden. It was a good strength activity for the kids, using the watering cans.

We planted a row each of pak choi and spinach and dotted some lobelias and violas for splashes of colour. The bean structures got disassembled. The pumpkin vines have died back so it was time to harvest the Queensland blue pumpkins. It was a game of hide and seek with the seekers finding 18 pumpkins hiding in the pumpkin patch jungle. There’s two more which have grown to full size but are still very green. Time will tell if they mature enough before it gets too cold. And we made a start on collecting the snails which seem to have appeared everywhere over the school holidays.

Thanks to Peta, Fi and Tash for your help today. A beautiful way to start to term in lovely gardening conditions.
