Principal Post

Thank you - for Term 1

It's amazing to think that we have come to the end of our first term here at St John Vianneys for 2023. I thank everyone; students, staff  parents/ carers for the efforts and contributions across the term.

Congratulations in particular  to our Foundation students and all families who began with us for the first time this year. We hope that you are feeling at home at SJV and beginning to find great connections with others within our community. Certainly on the whole, our Foundation students have settled well!

To our senior students who are our student captains and leaders you have set the scene so well this past term. Your great leadership is well noticed and appreciated. We could not be more proud of your efforts across these past ten weeks!

To our teachers and staff particularly those who are new to our school this year - thank you for your professionalism, care and expertise; well done on a super effort across a busy term!

All students have across the term, been immersed in a range of purposeful learning activities and have progressed in their understandings and skills. It is important that over the Easter break, students can relax and enjoy their holiday break. Continuing to practise Literacy and Numeracy skills across the holidays can be helpful. Of course reading for enjoyment is always important and something we want to instill within our children.

We look forward to  partnering with you and embracing all that our second term  places before us!

Going on Holidays - Extended Leave

Please understand that when you choose to take your child out of school during the term, they will miss learning opportunities within the classroom/ playground. Some 'concepts' taught at this time within the school will be missed. Teachers are not required to provide students with 'holiday worksheets' as worksheets alone are not helpful for the learning of missed concepts.

It is important however that parents keep up the reading and maths work for their child when they are away from school.

All parents must complete an extended leave form should a child be away from school for 5 days or more. This form is available on our website and from the office.

Light the Way - Our Theme 2023

Please read and see the students input on how we have lived our theme Light the Way in  across Term 1 here at SJV!

Easter Saturday Vigil

Congratulations to Andy and Anthony Le and family who on Easter Saturday evening will be baptised into the Catholic Faith. This is a big step for these families and I am sure you join with me in congratulating them. We hope that they will continue to grow in their faith and always have the ongoing support of the Catholic Parish Community.

Crazy Hair Day Fundraiser

What a sensational effort by our students as they raised nearly $500 in support of the the Royal Children’s hospital, Good Friday Appeal.

Our Mini Vinnies, SRC and Social Justice leaders have been outstanding.

Project Compassion

Thank you to families for their very generous  donations which go toward Caritas.  Your money will be used to help those less fortunate or effected by natural disasters.

We are in the process of counting the collected money and look forward to letting everyone know the final figure in early Term 2.

Easter Surprise

Easter is coming soon and the Easter Bunny may be coming to SJV before the end of term. Your child  may receive a small egg. This will be sent home at the end of the day on Thursday 6th April  to be eaten at home. Please note the chocolate may have in it traces of nuts. (Cadbury)

ANZAC Day

Term two will begin on the 26th April with a short ceremony held by the flagpole (weather permitting) to remember the ANZAC's. The ceremony will be delivered by our SRC representatives. Parents are welcome to attend.

This will take place at 9am on the oval.

Our Student Captains are selling ANZAC day badges and wrist bands at the front and back gates this week and next week until sold out. It is important that these are kept safely over  the holidays and worn on the first day of term April 26th

Camp Australia - Holiday Program

Unfortunately our school will not host a holiday program at SJV for at least the ' First  and Second term holiday period'. This decision is based on 2022 data.

We are aware of parents ongoing interest in having a Holiday Program onsite. and will continue to explore possibilities.  We will let you know if this changes later in the year.

Please note that if we do have a Holiday Program at SJV, it will not be coordinated by Brigette (our School Coordinator) and it will be open to other students from other schools.

Holiday Programs for Term 1 holidays are located at various schools including the following:

Brandon Park Primary , Mulgrave Primary,

St Peters Clayton, Glen Waverley Primary and Glendal Primary. You need to go onto the Camp Australia website for further information about Holiday programs including booking instructions.

Staff Congratulations -  Baby News

Congratulations to Nick Hoare (3/4WH)  and Christine Ly who await the birth of their first child in July this year!  An exciting time for them and I am sure you join me in wishing them every blessing!
