Teaching and Learning

Welcome to Term 2

What a fabulous start to Term 2, 2023 with our first week full of learning, fun and sporting events. Our Foundation -  Level 6 students returned on Monday 24th April with enthusiasm, happy to see their friends, teachers and classmates.

With great weather and the outstanding support of the entire school community, the Level 3 - 6 House Athletics Day on Wednesday 26th April and the Whole School Cross Country Day on Friday 28th April were a tremendous success. Thank you to everyone involved, students, staff and families.

Whole School Learning Unit

In Term 2, all students take part in a whole school inquiry unit called 'Move, Make, Motivate'. This topic coincides with the theme of the annual Education Week running from Sunday 14th May until Saturday 20th May.

Education Week is an annual celebration of education in Victoria. This year’s theme is ‘Active Learners: Move, Make, Motivate’, which celebrates physical activity, hands-on learning and student voice in education.

To further enhance their learning, our Level 1 and 2 students took part in the Craftpower,

incursion, using basic engineering and woodworking skills to create their own vehicle.

Open Afternoon

To celebrate Education Week, Rangeview Primary School will be having an open afternoon on Monday 15th May, from 2.30pm until 5.30pm.

Classrooms will be open to see the work of our fabulous students, an 'Author's Chair' will run to hear the creative writing pieces of our students and there will be performances in the hall. Look out for the vehicle creations of our Level 1 and 2 students from the Craftpower Incursion!

Level 1 and 2 Swimming Week

The Level 1 and 2 five day swimming program will commence on Monday 15th May and run every day, concluding on Friday 19th May. The program will take place at Aquanation, Greenwood Avenue, Ringwood.

The Health and Physical Education Curriculum in the primary school years includes swimming and water safety in an aquatic setting. By the end of primary school, it is anticipated that students should be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills identified in the Victorian Water Safety Certificate. The Certificate is awarded when a student can swim 50m continuously, answer water safety-based questions and perform simple rescues.

Students will learn about water safety in an aquatic setting. The intensive 5 day swimming tuition program will be conducted by qualified swimming instructors. As this is a component of the Level 2 curriculum we encourage all students to take part in the swimming tuition. If your child is unable to take part in the pool, students are still required to attend the centre to continue their learning with their teacher and to observe the lessons. We will not be running alternative programs at school during this time.

Author Visit

On Friday the 19th of May, Level 4 – 6 Rangeview Primary School students will be fortunate enough to participate in an Author’s presentation from international author, A.F. Steadman. A.F Steadman is the author of Skandar and the Unicorn Thief, which is a fantasy adventure perfect for fans of Harry Potter, Keeper of the Lost Cities and Nevermoor. The sequel, Skandar and the Phantom Rider, is available in May.

ACARA Item Trial - NAPLAN

In 2023, Rangeview Primary School has been selected by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) to participate in this year’s Item Trial for Level 3 and Level 5. The purpose of the Item Trial is to evaluate potential NAPLAN test questions (‘items’) for use in future NAPLAN tests. The results from the trial will help ACARA ensure that NAPLAN tests are valid, reliable and fair for all students.

About the Item Trial

  • The Item Trial is being held in approximately 500 schools across Australia between Monday 22 May and Friday 7 July 2023.
  • Schools are carefully selected to ensure that a range of student backgrounds and abilities is represented.
  • The Item Trial is about testing the questions, not about testing the student or their ability. Results are not reported.
  • Students will sit two Item Trial tests. At Rangeview, these will be a Numeracy test and a Writing Test.
  • The tests will be administered at the school by trained school personnel and/or external test supervisors. Students will use the school laptops, the devices that they use for everyday classroom activities.

At Rangeview the Item Trial will take place on the following dates:

WEDNESDAY 14th JUNE  - Level 5

9.30am – 11.00am   Numeracy 85 mins
